Anybody who has experience with interfacing the M100 to input and output
devices or who knows of available text about this subject I would be interested
in learning about these things. I am referring to using the M100 as a
controller to monitor inputs from limit switches,thermostats, etc. and then use
that data to control output signals for motors,lights etc. I especially need
info on how to read the proper ports. I am sure the RS232 and cassette ports
can be adapted for such things as this. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!
Your best bet on information on interfacing the Model 100 is the Service Manual
(R/S Catalog Number 26-3801/3802). The easiest ports to use are:
Cassette Relay (Use BASIC "MOTOR ON" AND "MOTOR OFF" to turn it on and off)
BAR CODE Port – For controling serial devices
RS-232 Port – For serial devices
Sears, Tandy, and BSR sell controllers that allow individual AC devices or
Lamps to be turned on and off; although this system can NOT tell if a given
device is on or off. I use this for a sort of burglar discourager (it shuts my
lights on and off randomly at night when I am not home). Computer controllers
are available to interface with computers.
