difficult to use, and lots of bugs in rendering module, without ways around.

Hey,
I see from another message that you seem to be using Windows. I work on a
PowerMac so I don't know if the problems are quite the same. However I too find
the interface unfriendly and not at all Mac-like. The app is great but perhaps
by trying to please everyone (by supporting so many platforms – which is a
great idea of course) they end up by pleasing no one. Just a thought!
I got the training tapes but had so many problems getting them translated to
Pal format & the video quality is so bad that I find it very difficult to watch
them. The content in general seems pretty good although I wasn't too impressed
with the one on Decals.
For price reasons and features both I think this app is the one I will stick
with. Hash also seem to have a very good reputation for service.

If you are interested in getting better Pal copies of your traning tapes,
I would be happy to do that for you at no cost, all you have to do is send them
to me my overnight and I will return them the same day. We have NTSC to PAL
machines at our production office. We will pay for the return of bothyour
original NTSC and the PAL video tapes.

Thank you very much for your offer but I live in the UK! I couldn't possibly
put you to such expense & anyway I no longer have the original NTSC tapes. The
company which converted them kept the originals – they said they had to in
order to comply with copyright laws.
I will just persevere but I do wish Hash would support its international
customers in this matter & produce PAL tapes for us. That is, if they produce
any new tapes. I understand they are no longer selling the training tapes I
bought.

How are you! I'm sorry to see (hear?) that you haven't concurred A:M yet :(.
It took me a while, (I'm still learning tricks!) but, IMO, the result is worth
it. Hang in there and ask away!

It's really not as bad as you think! I learned quite a bit from the tapes even
if it involved a good deal of eyestrain. I no longer make holes all the way
through Bob for example. That means I have learned about the behaviour of
splines and patches.
Action is the area I am now working on i.e. learning the tools of the trade
there. That book you recommended (by Tony White) is alas out of print.
If you have been seeing some of my pleas elsewhere that I cannot manage my 3D
project, it is only because the requirements are too much for a beginner. I
will however work on a smaller project which will be better for me as regards
learning to be an animator. The other one was hopefully going to earn me some
money but I never really thought it was a job for just one person.

bought it right before I recommended it to you. If you wish, I could copy some
of the pages for you!
No I haven't seen your pleas elsewhere, didn't someone come to your rescue?

No, the book was definitely out of print: the best news about it (if you can
call it that) was that the publisher was considering a reissue, but only
considering. I tried my art stores to see what else might be around but they
had nothing on animation. Are there some pages you consider vital?
My pleas were about getting a CD-Rom project completed but it is not just a
question of needing a first rate animator, alas it is money or rather the lack
of it. As far as AM itself, I am very happy & will continue working with it.
The CD project I feel is slipping away. Things are very difficult at the moment
but I'm keeping my smiles :- )

How far along are you, and what do you need help with?
As far as Tony's book being out of print, I'll send the sections on walking
and running, if you wish. You can send me a mailing address through CIS's
private mail.
If, after reading those chapters, I see the book in a store, would you like me
to buy it and send it to you? I think it's about $20 US.

I am not sure what the copyright laws are like in the UK but here, what
they told you is not so, every one has a basic right to make a backup or safty
copy of almost anything, copying for preserving that which you have perchased,
which is not for distributon or the passing to others is no violation. Keeping
the originals, only means that you have lost controle of them, and have no way
of knowing just what they did with them. For all you know they are making and
selling copies all over the place. Now I am not saying they are doing this,
just that you have no way of knowing.
It not unlike making your own copies at home of a film off the air, This
is not a copyright violation until you start selling more copies, charging
others to see it etc. Of course as I mentioned it could be very different their
in the UK.
In any case the offer stands if you have original NTSC versions, it no
trouble, and your choice. Sorry I could not help more…….

I agree with you completely. When my partner came back & said he had to leave
the originals I raised exactly the same questions. Ah well, the deed, 'tis
done now!

I had bought AM from them, and I remeber them having treining tapes in PAL
format. They have quite good level of service anyway.
