This is going to be a hard product to wait for. I wish we could compare
Illustrator to Pro Draw. You've seen one, I the other (worked with
Illustrator for several weeks – it alone is justification for having a
MAC). Gold Disk is ALL RIGHT. They're first product, (Page setter?) was a
toy – useless. Then they did their homework, settled down and produced
Professional Page which is a wonderful program and the mainstay of my
fledgling design/advertising business. It is lightyears better than their
first program. With that kind of improvement and the distance they must be
along the steep learning curve with PostScript I just can't wait for Pro
Draw!
I would have called PageSetter much more than a toy Rich, though looking at
it from your obviously professional viewpoint, it may look like that. It
did one thing, and did it well… it allowed the home user, the non
professional, to do passable DTP work at low cost (including ). cost of
program and dot matrix printer) I think it was quite a remarkable feat,
considering what was on the market at the time it came out. They have since
come out with a much better product, but Pagesetter will always have a
place in my fond memories of programs I _enjoyed_ using.
I can still remember the cheering when I demoed it at a local users
group, and shuffled some text and graphics around with ease.
your comments about PageSetter are well taken. We found it frustrating at
best since we needed real typesetting capabilities. It was a warm-up for
their much more sophisticated Professional Page. I like Gold Disk.

I'd be comfortable using Pro Page for any application in any level of
advertising/design. I note here that Info, Transactor and one other mag I
can't recall name of offjhand are all produced entirely with ProPage. I've
never seen Adobe Illustrator, but I know what it does, and i seriously
doubt it does it any better than Professional Draw. Gold Disk is much
better at producing programs than they are at estimating when they'll be
ready, but they wont ship something till it's reasonably functional, and
they do support their stuff with updates and improvements. Their help
line, apart from being in Canada (which is an expensive phone call from
here), is okay too. I'd bet on Gold Disk. Not when they SAY they'll have
the stuff, but eventually. It's an AMAZING procuct, in the AMIGA sense of
the word. I was impressed, and I'm old and jaded!
I just wish these nice toys had been around when I was in the ad/design

Right now I can safely say that with a combination of something like Pro
Page and what Pro Draw promises to be, I will be able to do almost anything
that I can visualize in graphic art production. But that's the fun of the
medium ,your horizons expand as you learn more. I'll bet that shortly after
the program comes out we'll be clamoring for more!
