I've tried, and other have too, to upload many pics and animations to this
forum, but only to have them "moved" to other forums.
I STRONGLY believe you are doing a great diservice to your exposure here on
CIS. Many of the pics are very well done (no, not just mine) and would allow
others who are thinking of purchasing a 3D modeller to judge the quality of
this product. Also, it would benefit those of us who already use A:M by judging
our works as compared to others, and maybe picking up an idea or two.
I realize that this might "clutter" the library section of Hash, but the
benefits to you and us far out weight any inconvince that might bring.
Even if you were to screen the pics for quailty, the promotional value added to
this forum is a very welcomed sight! I love A:M, even if it has its quirks, and
lack of special effects, but for the price and the "small company" feel of
great customer service, make it a fabulous product. I want to see A:M succeed,
and succeed BIG!

Andrew, I want to let you know I agree completely!!!! I have NO problems with
users uploading whatever they want into the Hash Inc library… Unfortunately,
I have zero control over what CIS does with the files… I don't even have any
input on their placement, I don't even get to review them… This is one area
where AOL (America Online) surpasses CompuServe… their "rules" are much less
strenuous….
I have seen MANY great things that I would have like to post here, but becuase
of various rules have been unable to.

Your response was VERY enlightening!!!!!! But, I have some confusion about the
whole mess now too.
First to clear up the confusion.
*Are the forum sysops hired by Hash or CIS?
*Do the sysops of this forum answer questions about Hash products or only
control the file uploading?
*What does Hash pay for in rights in using CIS?
I'm just trying to understand because this kind of file "mishandling" is at the
expense of the users, in that we don't see the "full" representation of the
companies on CIS. If you might know of other reasons like security, etc. I
would love to hear them, else I think I might like to ask some questions
directly to CIS.
(Just a little fired-up <G>!)

I just noticed that someone uploaded a new pic of an art gallery. Is this by
some one at Hash, or a lucky fellow who got through? Hope the latter! If the
latter is true, I'll be trying soon! <g>

That's me again. It sure didn't take long – I uploaded it Thursday night.
I have had a couple of conversations with Bruce about the copyright policy.
From what I understand, each forum applies whatever rules they see fit. The
folks who run the SF Fantasy Media Forum apply a different set of rules than
the folks here. As far as I can tell, there is no across-the-board policy that
is followed with any kind of consistency. Maybe the folks who run this forum
don't think I should be allowed to upload my Star Wars images, but at least
they let me tell you guys where to find them if you want them.

Oh, I didn't check the user ID <g>. I'm surprised they let you upload the art
gallery to this forum. I tried in the recent past to upload some personally
done and orginal stuff, but it was moved. I'll try again.
Hope you don't mind if I ask if you work with A:M or other products for money,
or is it just a hobby?

If you want to check it out it is "PRFTAB.JPG". Maybe not up to your standards,
but I'm working on it <g>. Let me know what you think.
Right now I'm working on a 600-900 frame animation for the college I'm
attending. Looks pretty good, but contains a lot of black since it will be used
as a screensaver.
Seems I've gotten Steve mistakenly scared in this thread, so I'm off to sooth.

If I am not mistaken the sysop of this area moves files… If you need to
upload, and the people here are really interested, There is room in the Grafix
User GRoup forum… maybe we can take up shop there???

Sounds good for a temporary solution. Is there any place that Hash Inc. (hope
they're reading this!) might want to recommend and maybe direct others too in
the future?
The idea is for you guys to hang out here!!! Come on guys, don't go running off
on me…. Basically, I'm just another user with a very few special privleges
who monitors this thread and answers questions. I work for Hash Inc. NOT CIS
and I can't talk about how much we pay them, etc, for fear of violating a CIS
rule… It took alot of effort on my part to get the forum this far and I'd
really feel bad if you guys left (seriously). Unfortunately, I have no more
control over what happens to files that have been uploaded than you guys do…
I'd like to see more file accessibility as well, but there isn't anything I can
do. Please don't leave. Please!

I maybe wasn't clear enough, but I meant that if we can't upload our beautiful
pics here then we do need some place. The Graphx User forum seems to be a good
place to do this in. Hopefully we can get a library section specific to Hash
for ourselves (probably wishful thinking <g>).
I don't want to move our threads though to that forum, as your input
and general knowledge of the topics contain in our threads is greatly welcomed.
This forum is one of the most "friendly" that I've attended (and there's a lot),
because of the quick, insightful, and postive feedback from you.
I am trying to take it up the problem with moving the pics with the
sysop, Jenee, who seems to be responsible for the moving. Maybe he's just
following protocol, but it's a place to start. I hope that if enough forum
users state their wish for their pics to be displayed here, we might just get
it.
Another thought of for forums to upload our stuff to is "GRAPHDEV". The reason
is because they choose pics of the month or some type of "HALL OF FAME". If
Hash could it's name into the "H.O.F." it would be a big plus, if only an ego.
Some of the pics in that forum are created on big price software. I'm actually
hoping to get one in, just so I can add it to my resume <BG>.
I'll be here awhile Steve, and hope to be using the great, relatively
inexpensive products from Hash for awhile (though I'm not to fond of Microsoft
in the background runnings of Hash :(. )

could do to get a little more freedom in what is allowed in uploads…

Microsoft in any way!

Glad to hear that Hash and Microsoft are on seperate paths. Just a curious
question: I read in PC Mag that Microsoft had purchased the right to Hash's
spline based coding. Is that correct?
As for allowing more freedom in uploading, read message #4154.

NO! Hash and Microsoft were dealing in the summer of '93 but we felt
uncomfortable and the deal fell apart… Hash Inc is a solely owned
corporation. No part is owned by anyone in any way!!! Ah, the pleasures of
being solvent….

I'm sure I read it in the "Inside Track" of PC Mag a couple of issues ago, but
maybe they got their facts mixed-up. I'm glad to hear that Hash is Microstuff
free!!!
Have you talked to Jenee about the file upload situation? I haven't tried to
upload anything lately (and reporting that it was created with a Hash product).
Let me know anything you might find out.
I do have an AOL account, but CIS is the best meeting place!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like using CIS. I think they are very inconsistant, and do not
follow their own policies. If it weren't for the fact that almost everyone that
uses Playmation or AM hangs out here, I wouldn't be here. AOL costs less, has
higher speed access at no extra cost, and is very consistant and professional.
I don't mean this as a slam against CIS, but facts are facts. We are paying
them for a service, you, to keep this forum open, and us, to access it and each
other. They are not delivering. I'll stick around only for the length of time
it takes for either CIS to get their act together, or for the majority of Hash
product users to mutually agree to use AOL.

I've just recently started using AOL… I might upload a portion ofa n
animation I am doing… It is a hallway with a flickering light… It was so
easyto achieve with the Channels…

You can't seriously mean that, do you? What about us desperate users overseas,
that are looking for help and don't have access to the internet or AOL? I agree
thAt CI$ has some strange ways to handle things, but I am most glad that via
Ci$ I have the possibllity to get and (seldomly) give a little help.
Well on the other hand, I'm waiting for e-World to hit europe, then Ci$ may has
to open up a little more…

I wrote you a reply to e-mail, but it disappeared from my HD when I saved
it. This isn't the first time this has happened with CIS. I tried sending all
mail anyway, and it looked like something was sent, but I don't know what it
was. Let me know if you received it.

Jenee, the person responsible for moving our pics to other forums, sent a
letter to me in response to a question about the reason for the constant
moving. His response stated that the rules of CIS have been recently changed.
We can now upload our pics to the Hash Inc. forum, as long as the pic was made
with a Hash product!!! Let's try it out, and see what happens. If it doesn't
work, let them have it!!! <g>

Sorry about not getting back to you, but things are getting very busy here. I
haven't forgotten to write though.
