#micropolis problem

I have just added a micropolis 1gig slave drive to my 1.7 gig drive.
It seems to me that I saw some threads awhile back pertaining to some heat
problems which all of a sudden seems like it may be a problem. Unfortunately
both drives have to be stacked on top of each other in my tower. Maybe they
always ran hot and I didn't notice it.
Has anybody had ant problems?

I had 3 microp drives and all of them bit the dust. Did they burn out? Who
knows, but let me tell you microp caught my eye for the speed ratings, but in
the end were only a pain in the @$$!!!. A 500mbs worth of hand painted mattes
in the "trash".

what size of drives where they?
and were they close enough to each other to cause over heating?
Yours is a scary message.
I've had good luck with my 1.6 Gig Micropolis 2217A – but I went out
right away and bought a muffin fan, which I have pointing directly at
the drive. Before that, the drive ran very hot – now it's cool as a
cucumber. Had the drive in daily use for seven months now – but heard
of occasional problems that caused the fan purchase.
I've heard real bad stories about the non-AV SCSI drives, though. Few
other big problems, other than Ron's serious ones, have been reported
up here.

Sorry guys didn't mean to sound so negative about the drives. Just a
little vented anger about the three I had. And it probably had most
to do with the "special brand name" mail order enclosures they were
in, (the companies will rename maneless). Oops! Just saw my special
case of dyslexia get the better of me, I'll leave it for everone to
"enjoy".
These were the only drives I ever had problems with and come to think
of it all my others were raw drives I installed either internally or
in my own enclosures.
But remember "little cities" can generate a lot of heat!!!

you don't want to know –
bailing wire wrapped through some available chassis holes, made snug with a
sheet metal screw as a shim. . .
But it works – and its ever so COOL.

I was afraid of that.
I'll do it.
I have 3 micropolis' when I was testing the system before putting the cover on
I noticed they were very hot in the 3.5" bays this caused problems rebooting. I
moved them to 5.25" bays w/ mounting kits. For extra insurance I also installed
2 extra fans in the case. One of these is front mounted internally blowing
directly on the drives. I haven't any problems since.

I'll look for mounting kits and fans tomorrow.
All of a sudden I feel much better.
