#GARY?

A couple years ago, my monitor display started very occasionally twitching–a kind of darkening or shrinking (recovers too fast to tell which) here and there around the edges–reminds me of the way a jellyfish pulses. More recently–on rare occasions at first, but now at some time during almost every 2-3 hour session–I'll get full screen darkening and/or color change, and/or dark streaks horizontally across the screen, particularly between (or on) lines of text. Occasionally these will get so heavy as to leave the display unreadable for a few seconds, but–so far–they have always gone away enough so I could finish my tasks. A salesman, on learning that this is accompanied by no other I/O problems, suggested I need a new Gary. But Gary _does_ relate to floppy functions, which I have no problem with, and seems to have considerably less to do with video than either Denise or "HY200 VIDIOT," judging from a cursory inspection of the schematics in Appendix F of the A2000 manual. Does anybody have any suggestions? Bart Mathias

Bart, My first place to look would be the monitor itself. If at all possible, try your Amiga on a different monitor…see if the same symptoms show up. Don

Bart, We have had a similar problem, and originally the mother boad was replaced. The problem was not cured. We much later blew the Gary chip altogether, unplugging/pluging in a printer with everything on, the chip was replaced and out monitor problem remained. The monitor problem we had was intermitant and went away for many months only to return so bad we took in in for repait. It appears it is a chip in the monitor that needs replacing. I will post its details tomorrow as the information is at work. We have not been able to source the chip to repolace it son the monitor, a 1942, is currently dead. Regards Leonard
