#floppy drive problems

I need some help.
My system is:
A2000, GVP G 040 @33, 16meg on board, 2 meg chip ram DKB, 2 int.
HD's,(Maxtor 213andQuantum 500, daisy chained to internal GVPScsi port).
WB 2.1. Also have Picasso II,Emplant, OpalVision and VLab boards;
Bernoulli 150 external, connected to externalGVPScsi port and Sony 300
CD-ROM.
I installed WB 3.1 about 2 weeks ago. My system has seemingly been running
perfectly. All of a sudden, today, while trying to convert some iff files
to text with Migraph OCR, I found that neither of my floppy drives would
recognise my floppy disks ("not a dos disk"). My Iomega 150 MB external
drive works well.
What could the matter be?

Say, that's the same problem I've been having! I also have a 2000 with
3.1, and had an A3001 030 accelerator until a week ago. Can you tell me if
you have any 'unknown' vectors showing up with your virus checker?

Sorry about your problem. However after a restless night of obsessing
about my problem, I got up, turned on the computer, and put a floppy in my
external floppy (a Fujitsu that I use with Amia to access double density
drives on the Emplant Mac emulator). Lo and behold, that was my
problem-the Fujitsu plug was loose in the external disk drive port.
Do you have 2 internal floppy drives? I do, and while I was trying to
figure out what was wrong, I came to the conclusion that both drives could
not have failed at the same moment (low probability) and all my floppy
disks could not have all gone bad at the same moment, leaving the
possibilities of a chip failure or a software problem. I'm not an expert,
and I don't know if the Agnus (I think she's the one who directs floppy
drive function) gone bad would just affect the floppy drives alone. If
not, that leaves a virus, as you suggest, or something in your operating
system software which changed when you stopped using the A3001.
Send a message to "all" and I'm sure one of our more knowledgeable
Amigaites can help you.

Might also have been one of the CIA chips has gone bust (they're said to be
prone to do that, and one of them actually is responsible for proper floppy
drive operation). Try swapping them. If your floppy drives work again but, for
example, your keyboard (or something else that worked till then) fails, you
definitely know that it's the CIA.

It sounds like you damaged one or both of your 8520s. You can swap them around
and see if your problem moves from the floppies but another problem shows up.
If you can get a new pair I'd just replace both of them.
