Robert, I cannot think of any reason why the "recorder" of a video tape would prevent another tape from dubbing on time-code. You need to lose a generation here, you do know that right? Play the tape in a source machine, then put your RCTC capable recorder into a mode that it will record RCTC and hit the record button. Should work as far as I know. -John

The thread took place (I think) in either December, 1994 or January 1995, and I believe that someone had a method to post stripe RCTC.

Robert – PMJI – I have a EVO-9720 and a VX3 so I was able to try all sorts of TC experiments. I could not dub RCTC onto a tape that had 8mmTC on it. I've heard that the difference between RCTC and 8mm TC is that RCTC writes every other frame, and 8mm write every frame. Therefore, if you try and dub RCTC onto 8mm, only half the TC is being dubbed over all the 8mmTC. Then when the machine detects it, it sees only 8mmTC. I'm like 80% sure about this and you'll want to talk with a Sony rep to make sure. If you must have RCTC on the tape, I think you'll have to loose a generation. Check with Sony. db.out
