#What's Impossible?

Picture this (I'm a twilight zone kinda guy) 50 thousand tubes and relays
creating an Amiga in 1945, of course, it runs at a pittly 1.34 mhz. but
given 30 minutes, it will load dpaint and run it. Kinda of weird, huh?
That's the way I am, for example, I produced a game called Prophecy that
ran on the IBM. There was this one spell, Baeharlock that, if powered up
and casted in a small room, would create so much residual energy that the
entire computer] would lock-up. People thoght it was a bug until they
figured out how it worked.
Also, about the fast buck artist, we hired a guy to create the end splash
screen for Prophecy, and he took us for a ride and gave us a silhouette pic
that looked like such a rush job (and we weren't pressing) that it was
condemned. These instances scare me, because when you see it happening in
a lot of games, you get this flashback to a software crash of 1984-85.
Anyone remember that?

Rad,
You're missing the point. The available knowledge base in 1945 did not
support building an Amiga. (and, since there was no Amiga, there would be
no dpaint to load and run on it. 😉

(i was joking)
-rad
Rad,
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo 😉
Still, there's a lot of people that really do hold to that particular view.
Witness how many medical malpractice and product liability suits are based
(and won) on the assumption that the current knowledge base should have
somehow been known in the past. After all, the facts _obviously_ were true
at the earlier time, so the defendent was _obviously_ negligent for not
knowing them. I would ;), but I suppose <sigh> is more appropriate.

wow, this is getting heavy, man! Did you see the news story about the
"Silly String" (or is it ("Crazy String?") that was released on the market
in the aerosol cans that did't damage the Ozone when sprayed? They showed a
birthday party where a kid had a can of it in his hands and as the other
kid blew the candles out on the birthday cake, the kid with the can of
silly string sprayed it at the cake – it turns out the stuff is flammable
and when the string hit the candle flames it ignited and caused 2nd degree
burns to the kid who was blowing out the candles. Several companies that
market that stuff have since, recalled their product of the shelves.
Interesting situation though, I wonder how they'll resolve getting the
product back on the market without burning the faces off of kids or holes
in the earths ozone?
Kinda morbid, huh?
-rad
Rad,
The "Silly String" was not the problem (or at least from my limited
investigations), but a brand called "Super String". They recalled all of
the cans manufactured before Nov 1989 that had the problem. The new stuff
is not supposed to be flammable. This was a front page item on the local
Topeka Capital/Journal a couple months ago.

Ahh, see I thought that there were several different BRANDS of the same
stuff and all the companies that were also using the same chemical to
replace the f-carbons that damaged the ozone pulled their product off the
shelves as well. Well anywayz,…
Hey I just called NewTek about their Digi-brand of stuff, maybe you can
answer my question, eh, hmm, uh, eh?
-Rad
Rad,
I would gladly answer your question, but your last post did not
have a question in it. You can ask me here, in AmigaVendor, in CompuServe
Mail or call NewTek and ask for Moose.

Cool Moose!
Here's my $1,000,000 question.
Does any of your software allow for a genlock device? I need to modify
digitized "scapes", bend them, twist them, turn them, and then key them
onto video. Is this possible with the products you folks produce?
Also, I saw that your program, Digi-Paint allows for resolutions upto 1024
x 1024. Could you please describe this a bit? Is this res. in color or
b/w? Can I "port" over graphics from the Mac II and manipulate them on the
Amiga (and I don't mean low res. shtuff either)? I already know that an
Amiga with a resolution of 320 x 200 looks great on TV. Have you looked at
your demo on a composite monitor, lately? But I still need as high a
resolution that I can get but still maintain the ability to genlock.
I would truly appreciate your responce,
-Rad
Rad – we received the DVG hardware. Thank you. :^)
now I have TWO guys named rad. And I thought it wasn't a real name. Oi!

Wha, you mean me? No, of course not 🙂
By the by, I gotz DVG too, great program!!
-R. Activision 🙂
Rad,
Yes, it certainly is morbid. There are obviously legitimate product
liability and medical malpractice claims. It's a shame that the system is
abused to the extent that it has been.
As to getting canned string back on the market, well, I won't miss it,
myself. 😉

I saw the story reported on a show called "Hard Copy." I never knew that
news could be sensationalized so well! Although I still prefer to read the
Weekly World News, "SPACE ALIEN DIES FROM EATING CHEESEBURGER!" or "ANIMAL
PSYCHIC REVEALS THAT PIGS ARE ACTUALLY SAINTS!" My life has become so much
fuller since I started reading that mag.
