Christian, I've mailed out the V2.01 update notice to all registered V2.00 TxEd Plus owners, so if you haven't gotten the notice it's because I never got a registration card from you. Some of your requests are cleared up in V2.01, and I'll address as many of the other issues…

Don, I forgot to mention that both files are named LOGO.ARC so do a BRO *LOGO, it's the second file. Make sure you have ARC as well, if you don't it's in LIB 4 of AmigaTech as ARC.EXE and the help file is there also in LIB 1 (ARC.HLP). Let…

Colin, The problem with the Abacus books is that they are all written for the assembler they sell–Assempro??? Anyway, it is not a very good assembler, I am told. But they do have the examples – and about a dozen of those books. The books are translated from German, and…

Colin, Every program seems to insist that I add a library or a handler or put a file or two in the C directory. After a while, the WB is just too full to hold any more. Especially the 1.3 WB. And with 1.4, more of the WB will come…

Charlie, Dallas is not exactly a poorhouse community. We did a poll at our last club meeting, and of the 150 plus people there, only about 10 or 12 had hard disks. Betty

Colin, they aren't cheap to put on a 1000. I see prices in the 600-800 dollar range as being the minimum, by the time you get everything needed. That is a VERY sizable amount of money for most people. It isn't even that cheap for a 2000, by the time…

I think what is happening is: The Amiga is going to be for the very well off only. If we can't afford hard disks and memory expansion, we can't use much of the software for the machine. Now, getting a hard disk is not impossible for me – I will…

Got your demo in the mail yesterday. I can say this much – it is thoughtfully put together. It was a real pleasure to go through. It didn't need the mirror ball or the Lotus but…what the heck, you probably had fun rendering them. Hopefully the demo is an indication…

Robert, The choice is left to you on the FFS vs OFS. If you plan to autoboot a small OFS partion is in order. If not, then you can FFS the whole drive or partitions. Autoboot is nice, however, I elected to FFS all partions for myself at home. I…

Bruno, Either drive may be used. However the ST277R would require and additional card. My suggestion is the ST277N-0, or the ST277N-1. The -1 is a faster drive. Both models will serve you well. You don't need a bridge card to operate any dri=s the Amiga side of the A2000.…

Betty, "How much nicer if ARC could just accept the file names – and keep the directory structures – without making us rename and create script files to restore!" Sound a *LOT* like you are asking for ZOO. Does exactly that. And ZOO is FASTER than PKAX (the fast unARCer)…

Bill, I have been using MAKEARC to do that, and it works quite well. Many people like to look at the names of the files, though, without dearcing. They complain when we rename things to "File1", "File2", etc. Renaming works, but it does not please those people at all. How…

While it's certainly true that the Amiga sings when you add RAM and a hard-disk, the majority of A500 owners will never expand beyond 512K or maybe 1 Meg and 2 floppies. Even among A2000 owners there are a lot of systems without hard disk or memory expansion beyond 1…

As far as the Assembler is concerned, I can heartily recommend Charlie Gibb's A68K, a PD assembler. It is really slick. There is a book from Abacus, called something like The Amiga Programmer's Guide, that is written with all assembly language examples. — Colin —
