Steve-Y'know, I did try to modify my acad.mnu to see if I could fix it and I couldn't find which "quit" it was on the menu. I thot it was @ "UTIL", I believe , but it didn't work the first time so I filed it for "later"…Show me the…
#22314 BIGFONTS Message #22320
From: Duff Kurland [Adesk] Autodesk · AutoCAD April 27, 1988 6:13 PM
Jamie/Mary – The "hash table" message is not an error message; it's a debugging message that should have been turned off in the released version of AutoCAD (and will be, in Release 10). Just ignore it for now. .

Steve-The client says that they get this error w/ several different dwgs on this one Wyse and the dwgs run fine on other PC's (!?). they tried a new math co-processor in the Wyse but it still generates the HMATH error….our idea is that it's hardware related but since they…

I would contact Photon about the ADI. It sounds like it has a problem with the new ADI specification. It shouldn't, but if it worked with 2.6, that is the only theory I can come up with. Jamie

The postscript driver is "generic". It should work with any device that accepts postscript input. Jamie

#22278 PLOTTING IN REL. 9 Message #22315
From: Jamie Clay [Adesk] Autodesk · AutoCAD April 27, 1988 5:54 PM
The plotter and computer are locking up? A ^C isn't canceling the plot routine? That sounds like major hardware incompatibility. You may want to try slowing down the 386 to 10 or 8 and see if that helps. We have not had this problem with the "real" Draftpro we have…

If the font has many vectors in it, like triplex, it can take longer to do some commands. The way to redefine the style with a new font is real easy. Using the STYLE command answer the first prompt with the name of the Style and then the second prompt…

From: Steve McCall [ADESK] Autodesk · AutoCAD April 27, 1988 1:06 PM
Randy, HMATH is indicative of a corruption in the drawing, something like a negative radius or abnormaly large number like 1.234E98. If you can create a DXF file from the DWG, look in it to find such numbers and change them. The ATO documentation says that the error # refers…

From: Steve McCall [ADESK] Autodesk · AutoCAD April 27, 1988 1:06 PM
No, Randy, I haven't received that .DXF file yet. Maybe it will arrive soon. As for the redundant QUIT, sorry for the non-response. This redundancy could be considered another check before dumping out of the dwg, rather than a bug. Nonetheless, I'll see if it was meant to be that…

From: Steve McCall [ADESK] Autodesk · AutoCAD April 27, 1988 1:06 PM
Robert, Microsoft Word claims to be able to include a "print file" in a document. For AutoCAD, this would mean a PRPLOT to a file, with AutoCAD configured for whichever printer you would be using with Word. I will try this and report on my success or lack thereof. I…
#22294 Networking Message #22301

Heather: We are an authorized AutoCAD dealer in Illinois. We currently have several customers running multiple CAD station networks with interfaces to machine tools (using IMAGE CNC programming). Our Network of choice is ArcNet running under the Novell software. (Novell I believe is the only Network company on Compuserve.) The…

In one of my past lives I was attempting to trasfer files between AutoCAD and Integraph. Integraph was less than helpful(understatement). Two years ago the solution offered by Integraph was to write a custom translator, we did; it didn't. However I understand from the AutoCAD applications guide that a translator…

Jim, there are many good textbooks about learning and using AutoCAD, as well as video tape tutorials. I am not aware of any computer-program-type tutorials, but some may exist. A good source for info like this are bookstores and the AutoCAD magazines: CADENCE and CADalyst. =SM=
ADESK Logo Message #22295

Jamie What exactly does the ADESK logo on the cover of the AuotCAD reference manuals, and can I incorporate the logo into the logo for our Users Group? Thanx, Dennis P.S. I'm back in business with ATO, I don't know why the program was hanging up, but it's fine now.

Our company is looking to expand to multiple CAD stations within the next 2 years. The end requirement will be for 5-8 stations running AutoCAD, producing mainly 2-D drawings for use in a manufacturing environment. I would appreciate hearing from others who have a similar set-up. Of particular interest are…

Joseph- I've used a program called adiPLOT which is advertised in the mags. It improves the FX resolution quite a bit and works from the AutoCAD ADI driver. You basically do a PRPLOT to file and this program does the dump to the printer! Makes some nice plots! >>> John

Is there a program available which takes AutoCad (V 2.52 -9) and makes full use of a dot matrix printer as a plotting device? I have seen printer-plotter output for the 2.52 on a NEC P-6 using the Epson FX-80 printer plotter emulation and it seems to deliver a 60…
#BIGFONTS Message #22272
From: Mary B. Trudeau Autodesk · AutoCAD April 26, 1988 7:59 PM
I made a BIGFONT fraction font, similar to the one in the book Customizing AutoCAD (Rider Press). When I use the font, text operations (MOVE, COPY, CHANGE, etc.) are unacceptably slow (on a Compaq 386/20 – Artist 10 video) (many disk read/writes). Is this because BIGFONT's are inherently slow (should…

Don – The '386 does have its good points! Even with today's version of AutoCAD (and other software) designed for the 8088, 8086, or 80287, the '386 really flings those bits around. One thing to keep in mind is that both the '286 and the '386 support extended memory, which…

Don — Again, let me say that my figures of 15-30% for an 80386-80387 build of AutoCAD are incorrect. Duff's initial test results indicate a possible increase in the 10-15% range, which I don't think justifies a new build of AutoCAD specific to that chip combination. In any case, I…

#22195 #MS-DOS Message #22216
From: Duff Kurland [Adesk] Autodesk · AutoCAD April 25, 1988 5:27 PM
Don – For certain programs, perhaps the claims you heard are accurate. For AutoCAD as a whole, however, such does not appear to be the case. AutoCAD is already using inline floating-point code. The benefits I see to making a 386/387-specific version would be a slight reduction in code size…
