Dave: Order of the Melted Floppy!! Larry
Kirk: The simplest configuration to run Acad R11 from inside of Windows is to put HIMEM.SYS as the first line in your CONFIG.SYS file and *not* use any other memory managers. Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to include all of the environmental variables you need (SET ACAD=, SET ACADCFG=, DLP vars,…
Thanks Dennis…. I was hoping to give about $200. That's what I can afford
Thanks much Dave, sounds great to me. I think I will try to go with the monitor and then upgrade to the other hardware later. Jerry
#Rel. 9 and DOS 4.0
Message #21753
I have a problem using AutoCAD Rel. 9 and PC-DOS 4.0. I occasionally get an Error swapping temp file error. Are there any known problems involved using the old Rel. 9 and a 60 Mb partition?
Oops on second look, I see you answered my question, do I need another auth code? the first machine is up and running. I tried enabling the network manager but got the same "this machine is not authorised to run AutoCAD " message
What I am after is to run ONE copy of ACAD on EITHER of two machines i.e. never more than one ACAD session at a time but from either machine. While on the subject, if you guys introduced site licences at somewhat reduced costs you'd encourage a lot more people…
Dennis I think I started this thread with a message to Pam at Softdesk. Paul
Thanks, I'll try them – I've been going CRAZY trying to get it right with my VERY limited UNIX

DCA Tablet dwg
Message #21748
Mike I'll have to look into it more. I do remember the client showing me the customized overlay (this was a couple of years ago), he had changed a couple of the road sign symbols into obscene jestures. It was definetly the DCA overlay, and I can't imagine he redrew…
##9 GXI Card – Opinions!
Message #21747
To All: I just purchased a #9 GXI L25 Graphics Card with the New Power9 DLP and would like to know if any other AutoCAD users out there has either purchased one or is testing one against a SPEA or Rasterex Card. I had high hopes for this card but…
Al: CADalyst reviewed all the plot spoolers out there, but it's been a while. We'll be looking at the latest ones in the March '92 issue. Besides AutoPlot, which is an excellent program, my company sells two spoolers that have been around in various versions for a long time. PLUMP…
Mike: That would have to be addressed directly to your ad rep and/or John Kiesewetter, the publisher. I don't know what their policies are on that. I maintain a strict separation between advertising and editorial, kinda like church and state. David Cohn
Huh? So, if not, will there be any support for PC based Unix in the future? Solaris, perhaps, or is the market just not there for any variety?
David- Very well put. I couldn't see your problem (why chprop wouldn't work) until you explained this. Funny, though; when I first started using autocad, guess what the 2nd thing I tried to do with rename was? . Duff, if your listening, this makes two votes for this. Hmm… on…
#Printers
Message #21741
Evan – Here's a simple one for you – I need to get a printer. Ideally I'd like to get an HPIIIP, but I don't think I could scare up the bucks for a while, and I need to get something fairly soon. I seem to recall seeing you saying…
Dear Dieter, Thanks, I was expecting the answer that yoyu have given me. We need to do more than visualization. We were hoping to create springs under different conditions to get moments of Inertia, centroid etc…etc But thanks anyway. Is there any API products being developed ? Ina…
#Icon Menus
Message #21738
Why dosen't the icon menu displays the graphics images (icons), but only when the individual slides are in AutoCad's working directory? I have created a slide library called pipe.slb with AutoCad's slidelib.exe from the slides, so dosen't AutoCad retrieves the images from the pipe.slb? Since AutoCad's icon menus work fine,…
Dave- thanks for the help. I think I can figure this thing out now, with your info. If I have any problems I'll get back with you. Thanks. Rod
Thanks for the reply. Are you aware of any API library functions that would let me fetch these names out of a drawing directly?
Joe, Gotcha chief! Thanks! Now that I'm no longer a virgin I agree that uploading the description is enough. Be prepared for more Free and Shareware in the near future! Dave L.
Dennis, Me? Too Lazy? You bet! That is why I use AutoCAD! Change works wonders on entities not found in block definitions. Attedit is necessary for Attribs. Both of these are not necessary if I use (subst) to define a new group 8 value and update the entity but then…
Joe, Ok, I see what you mean. Rename may not be the *best* avenue. You may disagree with the implementation but I don't see you saying the feature is a bad one to ask for! Dave L.
WBLOCK file size
Message #21729
Dan, I must have miss understood your orginal inquiry. This script goes through and wblocks all our drawings and wblocks. The wblocks don't change in size how ever since there's nothing left in them to purge (views, viewports, UCS's, and unreferenced entities) in them. If you had a wblock shrink…
Old Plotter
Message #21728
David – If Dennis is right that this is an old HPIB interface machine, maybe I can shed some light on a **possible** solution. I've been down this road myself a few years ago. (And gave up for the same reason that Dennis mentioned – the cost of the interface…

#ACAD 11 & MEMORY
Message #21726
I need some infomation on the best way to use memory available on our workstations. We have 386/20e Compacs and 386 equity Epson workstations. We are running on a 3.11 Novell Network, using the most recent shells. We have Thomas Conrad Token Ring adapter cards and 4Mb of memory per…
Alan, If you are running in a novell network environment and want to spool plots and also track time spent on projects and drawings, the best program out that I have seen is ACS Telecom EDMS 10-Cad. They are located in California and they sell the applications by the 6-pack.…
Thanks Scooter I@ll get back to you on this one.! Howard
Joe, Thanks! I have made my first attempt with the instructions left by Ken. I hope it came through ok? Dave L.
New version of SCRMK.exe
Message #21720
I have just uploaded a new version of SCRMK.exe which corrects a couple of bugs.
#Rel 12 Front End

I would also be interested in hearing a `little' about this. Also, any other new & improved features of 12! At least, when can we expect to see an announcement of features/shipping date… -Mike.

#Some OSNAP Problem/s
Message #21718
Tony, I wondered what the '3rd man' was point wise, thanks. I may be being stupid here, but are you saying that a change in perspective forces LASTPOINT to nil, hence the inability to calculate PERpendicular? Also, does ads_osnap work in the same fashion? hsm
#CAD Camera history
Message #21717
Duff – can you fill me in on a few details about CAD Camera, please? Mainly, what was it — an overlay program like CAD Overlay, or an automatic vectorizer, like Draftsman? How much did it cost, what kind of hardware did it require, and when as it on the…
Jerry – one man's opinion… That's a pretty tolerable list. Not much I'd change, except get 16Mb if you can swing it; probably another $350-400, but well worth it. Diamond Speedstar is a popular card. Make sure you get some display list software to go with it, like Vibrant's SoftEngine…
Rod – you don't need SEA utilities, per se… compressed files with the ARC extension can be decompressed with PKUNPAK. You can get that program, along with PKPAK and all relevant docs, by downloading PK361.EXE from Lib 10 "Utilities". The BIN extension is usually put on by Compuserve; if you…
Duff, Yes, I did understood that from your first message. However, the need to fix errors in the DXF file in a DOS-based editor did/does make it necessary to massage the DOS s into place. Perhaps, since *NIX-based ACAD can handle this anyway, the scheme should, at least optionally, be…

#MAC 11 ???????
Message #21712
Allan, All of us waiting with baited breath have wondered the same thing. So far, the only commitment has ben first quarter '92. Hopefully they can move it out quicker than that, but I think a lot of their resources are being redirected towards Windows (god only knows why). Bill
I suppose that I should have left a little more information so here is some that may be relevant. CPU = 486/25 clone stand alone station, DOS 5.0, Memory Manager = QEMM386 V6.01, FILES=40, AutoCAD R11c2, NEWDX used to update ACAD.EXE. That one other thing that may be relavant is…
Thanks, I didn't know that

HP Deskjet Printer
Message #21709
Thank you, thats what I'll do.
Dieter – I wouldn't be so sure about SCO support for R12.
Mark – Just to be sure you're clear on this… THERE'S NO NEED to massage a Unix-style DXF file (or any other ASCII file read by AutoCAD) into DOS format for AutoCAD's sake. It reads all formats without the need for user intervention.

lisp generator
Message #21705
LISP Generator II is probably one of those programs that either uses "plain english" or "flow-chart" symbols to describe what it is you would like AutoLISP to do for you. The program probably then translates these "wishes" into the appropriate AutoLISP commands. ie. You want to prompt the user for…

#Best Hardware
Message #21702

#Archive method
Message #21701
I'm new to CompuServe and the AutoDesk forum. I have several archive programs, but I do not have the SEA archive that seems to be used to archive the library files "file.arc/bin" I have seen in the AutoCad forum. My question is where can I find the SEA archive info…
Dennis- Any copies you saw must have been created in house. It doesn't really take that long if you start with the one provided with AutoCAD. We tried a couple of times to get a copy from DCA/Softdesk and got shot down each time. Mike
