Michael – Autodesk has not yet made a decision concerning an AutoCAD update for OS/2 2.0.
#34232 #Page Swapping Message #34258
From: Tony Tanzillo [LISP TM] Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD February 23, 1992 4:12 AM
Tom – You've got a 25+ megabyte swap file there, buddy! I don't know if its the font, or not, but if you can make some of the attributes hidden, or use ROMANS for editing, and ROMANT for plotting, that might help. Essentially, you've got a drawing that's probably generating…
#34152 Graphics Benchmarks Message #34257
Check your mail. You'll find a large ZIP file with the drawing, the script, and a BAT file. We don't really use any benchmarks in-house for our DLDs, as I have oft mentioned. Jake
#34048 #RapidCAD Message #34256
Ricki, My understanding is that RapidCAD is basically a 486DX chip that fits in a 386 socket. If that's so, why is it being marketed solely as a CAD enhancement solution? Seems to me that any PC application could benefit from a performance boost, even those without FP requirements. Jake
Oliver, There is _currently_ no real performance difference in display list operations between the real and protected mode DLDs. However, memory management has improved in the protected mode version, so overall AutoCAD performance should also improve. We will be releasing our Turbo DLD386 software shortly however, which will provide a…
Steve, Call Diamond at 408-736-2000 to get a free update/fix to the problem you're experiencing. Jake
The problem you mention was a glitch that was immediately fixed. Get an updated DLD386-VGA driver from Diamond at 408-736-2000. As far as Gateway having switched to the ATI Ultra on some of their systems, that's certainly true. It unfortunately does not ship with our DLD software (but you can…

From: Generic CADD Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · What's New/Want Ads February 23, 1992 3:46 AM
Jim (James), Forgive me if this sounds like a sales pitch. I'm not in sales, I'm in support. If I was in sales I could probably manage to make this more subtle and/or compelling. I loved your message re proper time to evaluate programs (re wcedit) in the AutoCAD forum.…

#34112 HELLO WORLD Message #34247
From: Generic CADD Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD February 23, 1992 3:45 AM
In addition to the Student version of AutoCAD I would suggest Generic CADD 6.0 (list price $495, sold in places like Egghead and Software etc. for a significant discount). We also offer a 60 day money back satisfaction warranty. The prior version won the PC Mag editors choice for best…
From: Generic CADD Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD February 23, 1992 3:45 AM
Brian, In all fairness I must point out that AutoCAD was smart enough to "BUY" a significant portion of that 70% when they bought Generic Software almost three years ago. (Generic CADD has about 20-25% of the market when figured on a basis of # of users, the only fair…
From: Generic CADD Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD February 23, 1992 3:45 AM
Myron, I was going to tell you all about Generic CADD for the Macintosh, and our 60 day satisfaction warranty, but Malcolm beat me to it… So, I'll just say… "what he said" and leave it pretty much at that. OH yeah, if you have Questions about Generic CADD, either…
#34234 Summagraphics tablet Message #34242
Stephen – digitizer not responding? Ah, God bless Summagraphics! In spite of being the most widely used and emulated graphics tablet on the market, Summas are incapable of returning to digitizer mode after you've used their mouse emulator mode in another program. This may sound like I'm yanking your chain…

From: Bill Sako Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · OpSystms/Networks February 22, 1992 11:32 PM
The objection is not related to disk space; on a network drive, there should be plenty. However, when more than one user is working on drawing files in the same directory, any files that have ANY possibility, no matter how remote, of having the same names is no good at…

Ron- my huge Tapcis age file strikes again…. ————— Tony- When I looked at the DesignJet, I found two problems that I wasn't able to find a way around at the time, and without a solution, the Designjet won't work for us. I'm sure there's a solution, though, so perhaps…
#34229 HP DesignJet Plotter Message #34236
From: Peter K. Sheerin Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · Hrdware/Drvrs/ADI February 22, 1992 11:22 PM
Gee, Ron- Seems like you ran into the same problem I did when we were scouting out the DesignJet. We haven't purchaced one yet, partly due to that problem, partly due to a convincing enough need (read: lower than normal plotting load). Same story as your's: Dealer couldn't explain the…
From: David Claflin Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD February 22, 1992 11:15 PM
peter, nothing is wrong with the PS driver that a substantial re-write wouldn't cure. Althought, the PS langauge supports polyline-like closed shapes, ACAD processes them as discontinuous line segments willy-nilly!
From: stephen grudier Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · Hrdware/Drvrs/ADI February 22, 1992 11:09 PM
Why does my digitizer not work the first time I go into a drawing? I have to go out then back in again? Have you ever heard of this?
From: TOM TORRE Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · Applications February 22, 1992 11:03 PM
All, I am looking for a third party ACAD developer that offers better looking ACAD fonts (comparable to ROMANT) but with less of a byte count per font file. I beleive ROMANT is around 4.8K and that really ups my drawing file size. I tried changing my Standard font from…

From: Ron Warris Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · Hrdware/Drvrs/ADI February 22, 1992 10:07 PM
We recently purchased a new HP DesignJet Ink Jet plotter for a new alliance. We were most impressed with the sample and demo plots, and considering the purchase price, it appeared to be our best option. However, the plotted output from AutoCAD using the HPGL2 drivers that were shipped with…

I was thinking of warning Malcom that I'd pay him a personal visit to complain about VISRETAIN, if that's what it takes. Heck, if it helped, it'd be more than worth the 2+ hour round trip! Perhaps I can convince Malcom to come to the SFAUG's demo of WinACAD, and…

#33900 #scale factors Message #34222
From: Tony Tanzillo [LISP TM] Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · Wishlist February 22, 1992 8:45 PM
Craig – That's exactly how it works right now. The AutoCAD SCALE command will by default, use an implied "Reference length" of 1.0, meaning that the distance from the basepoint to the cursor _IS_ the scale factor. You can see that distance and have it updated dynamically, by toggling your…

Mike, We have a several labs running AutoCAD, and one of them is an AST 386/33Mhz lab. Out of the seventeen computers in the room, two of them occasionally 'Hang' when exiting AutoCAD R11/386C2. Our machines use ATI VGA Wonder cards as well. Mark Kurdi Sheridan College (ATC)

#33977 AutoCAD Text Message #34217
From: Tony Tanzillo [LISP TM] Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD February 22, 1992 8:04 PM
Mark – No, there's no way to have text that dynamically responds to changes in plotting scale. And, its rather difficult to do. If for example, your plotting scale were to change drastically from a large scale to a smaller one, then the text would have to become larger. And,…
Brian – Feb 11. Main feature was 486-33s. It was a two part review on AutoCAD utilities. David Cohn did the intro and the first part on drawing viewers and I did the part on *AutoCAD* text editors. No QEdit, Brief, Norton, WP Office Editor… it was strictly about AutoCAD-specific…

Robert – You can get a LISP interpreter (and compiler I believe) for DOS and for Windows. You can also download David Betz's XLISP 2.0, from the AIEXPERT forum here on CompuServe (GO AIEXPERT). They also have a LISP section there complete with resident hard-core Common LISP and SCHEME freaks.…
Thomas – Something is causing the LOADING of ACAD.LSP to be terminated. It can also be a symbol conflict as well, where you are using the name that is assigned to one of the three routines somewhere else. If the file is not too large, and not proprietary, post it…

#34046 Zortech ADS Message #34208
From: carey moulton Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoLISP/ADS February 22, 1992 7:44 PM
Thank you David. I have downloaded the ADSZTC.zip file in the ADS conference but it only mentions Phar-Lap support and not ZTC's own DOSX 32 bit dos extender. If that ADS file does support the DOSX, which I haven't tried, then all is well. I'll give it a try, but…
#OS/2 2.0 and ACAD Message #34207
