Jon – >>> a Kodak CD is analogous to single physical hard disk partitioned into multiple logical partitions.
#132126- ACAD r.12 and HP 4L? Message #132272
Bud: >> thought I'd see if you have had probelms with paper jambs as well. Actually, we do get a fair share of them, but it seems that they tend to happen only when the paper supply gets really low. Mike

David, With the Kodak photo CD, you can keep taking the CD back to have more photos recorded on it. If you want to see more than just those photos recorded during the *first* recording session, you need a 'Kodak compatible multi-session' CD drive. Andrew

Actually, I have a question, Tom. When are you guys going to drop that unprofitable hardware business and go full-time with the software? Jake

Seems rather Karmic, doesn't it? 🙂 Jake

Hiya Scott! The Stealth board seems like a pretty nice product. It got PC Mag's Editor's Choice in the current issue, a Best Buy award from PC World (March), and the top pick in Computer Shopper… Jake
Thanks Ang! We're pretty excited about the write-up in PC Mag. It still amazes how different (and larger) the mass-market/Window market is for software. I'll tell you more about it next week. Jake
Keep me posted on your needs. Jake

When is someone going to write a regular ACAD driver for the 500C? The lack of one is losing them sales. I have no desire to have to add an additional step to my printing process. We have to use a outside plot program just to access a Postscript printer…

Steven, Call me biased, but I suggest that you keep your GT Express! In fact, look for Release 3.0 next month. It will come packed with drivers for SVGA, 8514, TIGA, and S3. It will also have a new release of AutoCLIC that will include our GT Utilities, several ADS…

Brian, Actually, Hijaak is kind of a pain, user-interface-wise. If you also run Windows, you might look at Picture-Eze (from Application Techniques) as a file converter. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

John, Have you tried the driver for the 7600? There are in-line and ADI versions shipped with R11. If you are at R10 (your message doesn't say) there are ADI 4.0 versions of the same driver available. The 7586 driver is HPGL while the in-line and ADI drivers both are…

Bill – Many of us have problems with network traffic, because AutoCAD keeps the temporary working database file in the same place as the .DWG file you're editing. It does this to ensure that you don't run out of disk space (e.g, if it were to place the workspace files…

Thanks, Dave, I'll be flinging shortly. Brian.
#34437 #Film Recorders Message #34445
Thanks, David. I'll dig around for my September issue. And I'll also look into buying Hijaak, which seems to be the most well-rounded program of its type. Brian Boatwright
#34430 Film Recorders Message #34444
Thanks, Kevin. I'll investigate a little further — I had heard good reports about Hijaak, too. Brian.
#34415 #Film Recorders Message #34437
Brian: As David Byrnes mentions, fling me any questions you might have. I reviewed several film recorders in the September '91 issue of CADalyst. I also reviewed several others a couple of years before that. Personally, I've got a Lasergraphics LFR Plus sitting here and have managed to record just…
#34256 RapidCAD Message #34431
Jake: I got to play with a RapidCAD just before it was shipped. It's a two chip set. One chip goes into the 386 socket; the other replaces the math-copro and handles exceptions that must go out across the bus. The major speed improvement is due to the integration of…

Brian, You should only need to go through 1 translation to get to Targa format (which would likely be best for .RND files), using Hijaak. Similarly, you can use Hijaak to convert HPGL or DXF. In either instance, an Agfa Matrix film recorder is suitable, as is the Lasergraphics recorders.…
Charles – AutoCAD initializes the COM port when it plots, then re-initializes it when it returns to the Drawing Editor — allowing you to use the same port for plotter and digitizer. The CalComp driver uses 9600, E,7,1 and XON/XOFF handshaking. If you want to use other parameters for the…
#34397 SummaSketch Message #34426
Dave – I and many other people are using Summasketch digitizers with Release 11 with no problems (complaints, yes, but no problems ). I have an old one, a Plus, that I got when I bought Release 9, but it still works. The IIs are a little better, in that…

My setup is only roughly comparable: HP RS-20, 4 Mb. But the digitizer is the s same. And no one seemed to have any good explanation for the lockups, although having only about 8 Mb free on the hard disk paprtition may (or, may not) have anything to do with…

Jake, It fits in a 386 socket? What'd they do, rip some pins out, or totally repackage the silicon? This sounds like a real interesting development. I have an upgrade option on my AMI mo-bo to upgrade it to a 486, this could save me some money. Tell me more,…

From: Bill Valaski Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · Hrdware/Drvrs/ADI February 23, 1992 6:32 PM
Robert, I'm using a Dell GPX-1024 video card OEMed from Renaissance GRX. Dell supplies a TIGA 1.1 driver for the card, but I'm trying to find a TIGA 2.0 driver so that I can utilize the Panacea DLD driver. Are you aware of the existence of a TIGA 2.0 driver…

Brian – Huh? Borland "or someone" dosn't make a LISP compiler. There are many compilers available for Common LISP, most of them will cost you an arm and a leg, because of the extensive work that goes into the development environment that comes with the compiler (e.g., embedded interpreter and…

Jake: Thanks for the info. We ended up talking with Diamond and downloaded the file Friday afternoon. I'll try it out Monday AM. By coincidence, we received another 10 of the Gateway 486-33's in Friday morning, and all ten had the ATI Ultra card. Initial reaction was that we didn't…

Thanks for your help earlier on my circle lockup problem. Here's a new question: I use a Logical Connection printer/plotter sharing device with my three stations. Each 80386 has all output (LPT1 included) redirected to COM2, which is set to 9600,e,7,1 and feeds the Logical Connection. The Calcomp plotter uses…
#34152 Graphics Benchmarks Message #34257
Check your mail. You'll find a large ZIP file with the drawing, the script, and a BAT file. We don't really use any benchmarks in-house for our DLDs, as I have oft mentioned. Jake
#34048 #RapidCAD Message #34256
Ricki, My understanding is that RapidCAD is basically a 486DX chip that fits in a 386 socket. If that's so, why is it being marketed solely as a CAD enhancement solution? Seems to me that any PC application could benefit from a performance boost, even those without FP requirements. Jake
Oliver, There is _currently_ no real performance difference in display list operations between the real and protected mode DLDs. However, memory management has improved in the protected mode version, so overall AutoCAD performance should also improve. We will be releasing our Turbo DLD386 software shortly however, which will provide a…
Steve, Call Diamond at 408-736-2000 to get a free update/fix to the problem you're experiencing. Jake
The problem you mention was a glitch that was immediately fixed. Get an updated DLD386-VGA driver from Diamond at 408-736-2000. As far as Gateway having switched to the ATI Ultra on some of their systems, that's certainly true. It unfortunately does not ship with our DLD software (but you can…

#34234 Summagraphics tablet Message #34242
Stephen – digitizer not responding? Ah, God bless Summagraphics! In spite of being the most widely used and emulated graphics tablet on the market, Summas are incapable of returning to digitizer mode after you've used their mouse emulator mode in another program. This may sound like I'm yanking your chain…
