Thanks, guys. Actually, I can't take credit for that joke. It was from an ad in computer magazines LONG ago in the days when EGA was new (I think that was in the Precambrian period…). The ad showed a box of 16 Crayolas spilled open with several of the crayons…

I agree. Call Autodesk at 800-964-6432 and get the names of a couple of ATCs near you. Give the manager a call and team up with them. Good luck! Barbara Bowen Autodesk Customer Education & Training
When I create some items in 3ds and try to render them some of them don''t cast shadows. I have tried moving my lights, changing the materials, embedding other objects within the master objects in the hope that they would cast the shadows and rendering on different machines. The shadows…

#197227 AAS and Swapfiles Message #197324
"Do you know if there is any way to save AAS .tga's as 24bit" You should bring it into SoundLab and save it with the Alpha channel deleted. This reminds me of the Tips and Tricks (page 12 of the 1.1 version) about getting files from AAS into the DPS…

There is an entry in the WIN.INI files which report the directory and version of previous installs. This should not influence the effectiveness of an update.

I have had no problem running 3DS under win95, it's slower, unless I exit to DOS mode, but it is possible. When I upgraded to Win95, my previous windows version was configured to run 3DS (see the manual), loading the windows pharlap driver.

ARE-24 Elements Message #197317
Help! I am using ARE-24 from Ketiv, I can not get the "elements" (trees, plants, pictures, animals, etc.) to insert with materials already assigned. I'm getting geometry only. How does this package compare to Autovision and Accurender? Thanks!
#197174 AAS and Swapfiles Message #197316
dave: Thanks for the reply. I was actually looking for a way to direct swapfiles from AAS *specifically*, not general tempfile info. I wondered since AAS preferences allows you to specify size why it didn't let you create a seperate drive(s), directory or directories for location, ala Photoshop. Bruce Meikle…

Mike, try it without the IPAS- in the shaper, draw the glass with all the cracks where you want them. Extrude the plane as individual pieces with adjacent borders on all the cracks. Select the surface faces and map them with the desired material. Could probably use automatic reflection mapping…

Soft Engine Message #197301

Donald, I've been dealing with the same thing lately… long paths with keys in sets of five. At times I've had success when manually reducing the curves to the first, third, and last key. It becomes quite tedious, especially as I'm often making refinements back in the Shaper or Lofter,…

Larry, I looked for a "steps" setting in Keyframer and saw none — did I miss something? I tried changing the shape steps in Shaper before importing it to Keyframer, but I always ended up with five keys per curve… Donald Newlands BRW, Inc.
From: Grady Sain Autodesk Multimedia Forum · IPAS Usage October 27, 1995 1:40 AM
Martin, Thanks for the response. Your technique will definitely work, the problem is we have to (nearly) match hundreds of keyframes.
