From: Thomas G Sullivan WinNT Forum · General Discussion February 23, 1994 6:17 PM
Does anyone have a tar utility that works on NT tape drives? I have gtar, available over in Win32 SDK (I ftp'd mine), but it appears to have no way to access the Tape device (I have an Archive QIC150). In the registry, the archive entry has a Device Name…

Nigel, I've enclosed a Windows NT Knowledge Base article which explains how to do this. Tom O. [ms] ———— You can change the default background bitmap used at the Windows NT logon screen by modifying a value in the Registry. To do so, use the following procedure: WARNING: Registry Editor…
WinNT 'tar'? Message #167258
From: Syndesis WinNT Forum · Utilities/Applets February 23, 1994 3:48 PM
I'm looking for an implementation of 'tar' for the system tape device under WinNT. Has anyone seen such a thing? I use my Exabyte as a backup unit with the system Backup program, but I'd love to access other Unix tar tapes I have under WinNT. Read action !
#Startup Bitmap Message #167240
From: Mike Snowden WinNT Forum · General Discussion February 23, 1994 3:07 PM
Does anyone know how to change the bitmap NT displays when it puts up the Logon Dialogue. The system seems to use WINNT.BMP in the SYSTEM32 directory and replacing this changes the bitmap, but it seems that there should be a registry entry for this. Nigel Longton via Mikes account.…

Thanks for the reply. I need to remote-start programatically, i.e. in code in an app that I am writing, but I will take a look at netsvc.exe and see what I can learn from it. KM Read action !

John, I have noticed the same problem. However from what I've been able to tell it's not an MS problem. rather it is an APC problem. You probably noticed that the red low battery light is on when the UPS comes back on line. An unfortunately it seems that the…

#159870- Inbound 'rcp' Message #160304
From: Walt Kemmerer WinNT Forum · Network services February 6, 1994 2:55 PM
If you need "rcp" into NT box and are willing to forego a little in security (file ownership issues), you can run WinQVT/Net for WinSock and activate it's "rcp server". i do this and rcp into NT from my Unix boxes all the time. Yes, it's a kludge, but it's…

I, too, thought I could add Linux to the BOOT.INI file. After many variations on the path to the Linux partition (including DOS path format, the RISC (or whatever it is) format that NT uses, and the /dev/hdb2 type of format used by Linux), I gave up. Apparently: 1. The…

This isn't exactly what you're looking for but it might help. Both the 30 second delay and the selection of Windows NT are defaults. Those settings can be changed from the Control Panel – System Panel.

I know how to change the transfer rate (EISA setup). How do I disable sync? BTW the HP specs say the thing should do synchronous transfers at 5MB/sec. I currently have my transfer rate set a 3.33 MB/sec. There is 1 Reply. Read action !
