Re: the necessity of DOS extenders: The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle of Quantum Mechanics: "It is impossible to know both the position and the velocity of any quantum (subatomic) particle at any one instant in time." The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle Applied to CPU chips: "It is impossible to both understand and…
SVHS deck wanted!!
Message #49951
Help! We need any SVHS or even VHS VTR that is compatible with Soft-VTR for direct control. We do NOT need frame accuracy — +/- .5 second is more than enough for our purposes. Please reply by E-mail. Thanks. We need it YESTERDAY!!

Dave, among the programs we published were adventure games. Those take considerably more than 10 minutes to master. I was expected to know all possible solutions and mistakes and dead ends and red herrings a game player could find in those as well. We had at least several hundred such…
Pentium and 3D Studio!
Message #48939
I doubt the 486-DX3/99 will be faster than (or even as fast as) the 60 MHz Pentium FOR FLOATING POINT WORK, which is what 3DS requires (especially for rendering). For INTEGER work, which is what 90% of most typical office software is based on (including Windows itself), that's probably true.

Oh, BTW, 3DS DOES allow you to measure your models with considerable accuracy. Check out the Architectural option in the Units dialog box ([Ctrl]+[U]) while in the Shaper, Lofter, Editor, or Keyframer. I often do mine at 1/32" increments!

3D Studio is wonderful, but could use some improvement. I have a LONG wishlist for it, which I haven't yet posted here. I hope Release 3 does incorporate some of my concerns, since they are pretty obvious. Nonetheless, 3DS is wonderful for what it does. It doesn't do the real-…
very poor support
Message #48936
Bob, I must agree with the sentiments expressed here. Your company's support policies as you've expressed them in your message are abysmal. There is no excuse for a company which charges thousands of dollars for a software license (note: NOT for the software, just for a LICENSE TO USE the…
Colors w. ATI/Vibrant ?
Message #48935
Chuck, I'm curious: you say, and both Vibrant and Panacea have also said in the past, that due to limitations in the ADI specification, that colored mapping icons and spline arrows are not possible in ADI main display drivers under 3D Studio r2. There is some evidence to support this,…

Just what the heck is a Metaball? The earlier messages have scrolled off, apparently.
Animator and S3-Chip
Message #48933
The Stealth has full VESA built into its BIOS ROM, so there is no need to load a VESA driver first. Just pick a VESA mode.

The ATI Graphics Ultra Pro is the same as the Graphics Ultra+ but with VRAM instead of DRAM. I do NOT recommend ANY of the ATI mach32 boards for ANY PURPOSE. Most of their vaunted speed is done using a "Memory Aperture" feature which makes the video RAM look like…

Bryan, don't you mean the SAMPLES\MAPS and not SAMPLES\TEXTURES dir? I don't think there IS a SAMPLES\TEXTURES directory.
Help!! CEL Converter!!!
Message #48930
Note that CELs can be single images or animations. A CEL is basically a (usually) small FLiC, though it can be full screen and hundreds if not thousands of frames. If it is an animation, y9ou will probably want to convert it to a FLiC by loading it as a…

Where can one find out more info on this incredible-sounding system? Who makes it? What number should I call? If these questions have already been answered, please excuse my CIM Lag. :>

#Transitions and Wipes
Message #45384
What I do is create a solid white screen flic in AniPro of the maximum resolution and maximum number of FIELDS I want for the transition (a one second transition would therefore be 60 frames). I save that out under the name NTSCWHIT.FLC. This only needs to be done once…
On piracy, one company did something quite interesting: they included not only the licensee's name and address, but also the type and number of his/her credit card on the opening screen and elsewhere in the program! Think about it: who in their right mind would let someone see their credit…
Thanks much for your honesty, Jack. I know what it's like to develop a whiz-bang program with lots of bells-and-whistles type features, only to discover after it's on the market that y'all overlooked some very basic functionality. You're not the first that's happened to, and you probably won't be the…
Craig: That may be true. I do know, however, that QEMM gives a lot more power and flexibility than even DOS 6's HIMEM.SYS/EMM386.EXE combination. For instance: * Add "FRAME=NONE FEMS" to your QEMM command line to disable the EMS Page Frame (thus freeing up 64K of UMBs!), WHILE KEEPING VCPI…

Rush Limbaugh Animation!
Message #42676
Yeah, the flag morphing was a pretty big hint. Even so, there is a very noticeable difference between any sort of texture/reflection mapping available in 3DS2r2 and true metallic shading, which is just not possible with Phong shading. Hopefully, r3 will provide true Metallic shading (and Raytracing would be nice,…
Vibrant Drivers
Message #42675
Thanks!! Will check 'em out!
If you were to add it, a simple syntax for it would be "/Vfile" where "file" is the name of a Video Post (".VP") file. Might be a nice addition for an interim release (2.02 or maybe even 2.1).
#PXPs calling PXPs
Message #38223
Is it possible for one IPAS routine (especially a .PXP) to call another as a subroutine, or even just branch to it? If so, it seems to me that this would be a very easy way around the 14 PXP limitation — simply write a real small .PXP that simply…
#Command Line Video Post?
Message #38222
Is it possible to do Video Post rendering from the Command Line in 3-D Studio 2.0 or 2.01a? If not, can this feature be added soon? We NEED it BADLY! Thanks.
Okay, we want in on this. Please send a copy to: Marion Marks 509 Linden Shreveport, LA 71104
