Hi Laurie, So was it the C.S. Lewis story that got to you? Well that's o.k., shows you've got a heart. 🙂 John

#179755 #Build it/Buy it?? Message #179846
The implication here is that "high-end" system integrator's are going to charge you excessively more than you would otherwise pay… and alot of people do believe this, and in some cases its true… on the other hand not everyone can put a system together as you may be able to,…
#179829 un-Welded Vertices Message #179835
>> When 3DS is on NT (slow, boring and hardware intensive) I suspect this feature will be builtin… Oh well I'll be able to "cut-n-paste" my 32 bit targa into word! – Go figure!
#179749 #Nexus Map Message #179781
Jerry, I appreciate you've interest and will contact Bill Allen and see if this is a topic he would be interested in having me cover. It really does not make any difference to me which magazine its in, and in fact I think it would be of more general interest…
#179703 #STEALTH 64 VRAM Message #179716
Cameron, So you haven't found a better solution… yeah well neither have I. NT is the way to go for sure, I dislike this Win 95/DOS mickey mouse arrangement and its been around long enough… I still like the command line but the rest… don't want it, and wish I…
#179630 The Hardware Lock Message #179650
Mike, One solution, which is quite simple, is to get a small parallel extension cable, say 3 feet, and attach the block to it, so that its rests on the ground… then the printer cable won't be putting stress on the block… John

Gary, >> There is a utilities which converts TTF to DXF (with auto beveling)… I wonder about the auto beveling not further complicating things but I'd be interested in hearing more about the utility… >> He pays too well
#179584 STEALTH 64 VRAM Message #179612
Cameron, looking over on the Winnt forum with all the power users and tech heads the Diamond with the S3 968 is definitely the card of choice. So glad to hear I'm not all wet around the ears on this one… either. Oh and thanks for bringing up the point…
#179581 #STEALTH 64 VRAM Message #179611
Cameron, I think you're right on with your comment about good components making all the difference. With the massive proliferation of hardware available, its the components and support of them that makes all the difference. What memory manager do you use with systems with more than 64mb? I don't care…

Roy, I don't know if there's anything wrong with your description but it sounds right on to me, and very well stated. Thanks, that's a keeper. 🙂 John

3DS Lexicon… Had to really dig through the archives for this one, as it was buried in some undocumented text in the Yost Files (soon to be released in paperback) as the unofficial guide to the 3DS Development Years… Boomfo : boom_fo … Stray vertices extruding through polygonal shapes- caused…
#179254 #AMMEDIA party? Message #179288
Hi Emmanuel, The Ammedia Party is open to anyone who frequents Ammedia or is related to anyone who frequents Ammedia, through blood, friendship or whatever… No invitation required other than the knowledge that the party does exist and you're there to have a good time… 🙂 John
#179218 #Where ya from? Message #179226
Hi Laurie, At the risk of being personal, I find your expressions quite charming. 🙂 I especially like "boomfo", that's a perfect technical discription. (At least for me… 🙂 "bad craziness" is pretty good too… I'd say that was Cajun Voodoo, if you were down Louisianna way… I've never experienced…
#179198 NT doesn't like me. Message #179225
Sure Dennis, hope you get it worked out. I suspect you will have to activate LBA and reformat your hard disk… they should be able to provide you with a file on use of EIDE hard disk setup for NT.
#179212 #Ill Pro and NT Message #179224
Paul, Actually your question I decided was not silly at all. Having reflected on it at some length, it occurred to me that what might seem obvious to me may not at all be apparent to others. And when I got back I intended to outline what scenario I envisioned…
#179210 Ill Pro and NT Message #179223
Hi Peter, >> Are you talking about general software hooks such as Video for Windows. That's one example. The problem with the term rotoscoping is that it has several different definitions. One of which is to texture map a moving image on to an object, another of which is acquisition,…

#179136 #NT doesn't like me. Message #179175
Dennis, Its really hard to say what could have happened. I'd look into how the bios was setup to handle the IDE, which is actually an EIDE which has different requirements. Your best bet is to call Micropolis or make a visit to the Winnt forum… John

What kind of controller do you have? 🙂 John
Laurie, It sounds like your disks have been corrupted somehow, if reloading them didn't fix the problem. All you can do is take your copy back to your dealer and exchange them for a new set… John

#179065 3ds/NT MULTIPROCESSOR Message #179077
John, I'm very curious now how this is going to be handled by MS. Its quite suprising but maybe there's a good reason at this time. NT is so well executed I can't imagine how this got overlooked. In my day-dreaming about a fully intergrated system with Net access, I…

#179037 3ds/NT MULTIPROCESSOR Message #179053
Emmanuel, As an after-thought to your last question, I wondered if you were aware that a party for Ammedia people is being held the Sunday before official Siggraph Week starts. If you will be in L.A. at that time it would be a nice opportunity for you to meet with…
#179031 Avalon CD halted Message #179048
Heck John, I see this thing as a win/win for you either way. Its going to be alot tougher to get a collection together and you already have momentum, whether or not you negotiate the rights to sell an "Avalon" collection, which personally I would seriously consider doing if I…

David, There's a few points here that I'm rather suprised haven't been brought up. One of which is that our government is in the red to the tune of a trillion plus dollars… which is the real crux of the problem. So in an attempt to reduce some of that…
#Ill Pro and NT Message #179018
I recently discovered why no drivers are being written for capture boards such as the Ill Pro or Targa… (No thanks to the respective companies who would be developing such drivers…) Curious thing… NT has no facility to capture video. What is most curious about this is that you would…
