#12605 Film Rendering Message #12623
Does the Polariod use a RASCOL card?? Faint horizontal lines appearing more in lighter images?? No problem with low resolution TGA files only hi-res files?? That was the RASCOL's problem.
#PC Acceleration Message #12554
Does 3DS rel 2 have hidden hooks for rendering acceleration platforms. I know rel 2 is fast, but their is always faster.
I still think the software could analyis the end-cap. Figure the max area and the surface normal. Use this info to apply the mapping co-ords. Solve the most general case. Give the user the ability to turn it on and off. And if is it not what the user wants…
I could write as a video post module! How interested are you? $-)~
#12242 #Film Rendering Message #12551
I know nothing about the PP+ but, it looks alot like a Presentation Tech LFR doesn't it. The LFR had a problem (and maybe still does) with lines through hi-res images. These lines had something to do with the fact that the RASCOL II card which drove the LFR had…
Ohhh, I haven't tried that yet.

CAN'T WAIT CAN'T WAIT CAN'T WAIT ….
I have done several morphs w/out seeing this problem. Be sure to morph back to the 0000 object at the end and set the loop in the last morph keyframe.
Mike, Grin and Bear it. Some people would not be so rightous to buy a product. Or they might run 15 workstations from one copy. Surely you must understand this "needed evil".
You are right. It is a simple matter to select/detach/rename/map/attach. It probably would be just as simple to have the program do the mapping. Like you said, the end caps are always planar.
#10123 Cheap Video output Message #10299
I agree, video sucks, thank you FCC! If Buck thinks the price of good video equipment is expensive then you should look at a MGI 16 w/ an Oxberry Cine' Filmback. And the rendering time! The colors under coposite video will never be true. That is what all the stink…
#9450 #Targa + Underscan Message #9473
If you're trying to get a 1:1 aspect ratio with the targa forget about under scan and 400 lines. Use 640×480, 800×600, 648×486(video), or 1024×756. All these are 1:1.
#9409 Animation Marketing Message #9469
I think although Fkey based (crude?) the CG is extremely exellent. Simple and sweet.
#9380 #Animation Marketing Message #9389
We sold a Toaster w/ 3DS. The client uses the Toaster as a CG and a switcher. That is all it is really good for. Even the DVE of the toaster if extremely chunky and Toaster Paint, forget about it! The Toaster is not the endall cure all. BTW, if…
#9280- #Targa + Underscan Message #9387
I believe that some of the tmodes are defined as underscan. Truevision doesn't mention it though. I have it on some notes from GSL downtown.
#8047 3DS Rendering Time? Message #8157
More POWER!!! That is the only real answer. Software will expand in size and requirements as faster computers become available. More POWER!!! Take it from someone doing final edits at three in the morning the day before New Year's Eve. Had to wait for the renders to finish so I…
I had a feeling that the VRAM II would work with the original VRAM drivers. I also had a feeling that the VRAM II was capable of greater resolutions.
10 secs in three days. That is good. What are you complaining about. The solution. Optimized code. Cheap rendering tricks (don't re-render still backgounds every frame). More Power. Yea that's the ticket. More Power.
How about a 486/33 with a Weitek. Or maybe this: A 486/33 and when the P24 clock doubling chips come out get on of them. That should give you a 66 MHz math-co. May release 2 will have hooks for 3rd party i860 parallel processing solutions. We can only hope.…
I think that the driver that comes with 3DS is for the VRAM I. I forget the difference although I'm sure the VRAM II can go to higher resolutions with 256 colors. I think that Panacea should be able to allow John to achive 3D nirvana in the not so…
I've gotten good results w/ 5 secs on the AG-7750. A good Beta deck could doit in 2 secs.

I use Norton Anti-Virus. Seems to stomp it good. One thing about viruses. Keep you program current. Viruses tend to mutate.
If you didn't like tips you will not like sable. Sable is a tips clone written by Mathmatica and marketed by GSL. I personally use PhotoStyler on my VGA and TIPS on the targa w/ Hi-Res QFX or sometimes RIO.

#6531 #860i Message #6561
I have a application call Render Star. It renders a COMPLEX scene in about 15 secs. Only rendering though. The Herc Graph Station 3D is the card that that mail order house in FL claims will speed up 3DS 6Xs. Alas they are selling vaporware.
#6512 EISA Message #6559
The one I was thinking about was just about $2000. I swear by Micronet products BTW. I think they swear by Sony. The nice part is the media is about $50.
#6395 #860i Message #6507
What about the Hercules GraphStation 3D. It is a combo framebuffer and i860. It will also cost you about 1/2 as much.
#6477 #EISA Message #6506
Micheal, The Mylex EISA Graphics Adapter is not a VGA. It is a 34020 board and has drivers for windows and ACAD. Not for 3DS. 3DS appearently is religiously tied to the VGA.
#6443 #EISA Message #6505
Yea, Windows and SCSI. If I don't install PC-KWIK with windows it will crash. The funny thing is that if I do install PC-KWIK. Windows run radically fast! iT IS GOOD.
#6500 EISA Message #6504
SCSI drives cost a premimum for performance. I doubt you would get performance out of the parallel port, although I also have been thinking about getting one of those parallel port SCSI adapters for when I'm on the road. At this time I carry a spare SCSI host adapter card…
#6497 #EISA Message #6503
I could be mislead. I'm not at home with my files but I think they format to 128MB. I believe that this is a case of truth in propaganda.
#6451 #EISA Message #6496
BTW, everyday just about something new happens. I almost just bought myself a 128 MB erasable optical that uses 3-1/2" media. 128 MB in your shirt pocket. This is shipping product not future technology. It seems the olny way to carry my FLCs around. The only problem is that I…

I have IDE w/ hardware caching that are just as fast ESDI, BTW. On average this is what I've found using several different setups: 3:1 MFM (orginal IBM) 170 k/sec 1:1 MFM (WD1006-MM1) 400 k/sec 1:1 ISA IDE 400-600 k/sec 1:1 ISA ESDI 400-600 k/sec ISA SCSI-2 1600 k/sec EISA…
Woops, thought you were talking about 3DS. You might try the Animator forum.
The pathnames are all in a file "3DS.SET". You can use any ASCII text editor to modify these settings. The long way around is to change the settings and then save the project as "3DS.PRJ". Upon restarting 3DS the project file will be loaded and the 3DS enviorment will be…

#4474 POCO Stuff Message #4531
I always liked Maroon to Black background and WT text.
#4527 Crashed again Message #4530
I don't think that it is QEMM. Might remove the RAM option. Also if useing DOS 5.0 I might comment out the dos=high line. Non-Standard DOS partitions might cause this. Only trial will tell the right answer. Kinda like a detective. Eliminate one thing at a time. Run it and…
SetInk() ???? Message #4465
I tried doing a SetInk("UnZag"). It returns a 0 so I assume that the ink is set properly. When I exist the POC it is set although it doesn't come to the top of the menu. THE PROBLEM: is that after issuing a SetInk I do a Box(0,0,640,480). What I…
Last time I talked to VLAN they said they were just about ready with it. By now they should be.
#4382 ANIPLAY Limitation? Message #4427
What I need is DVI on a TSENG labs chipset. We are running quicktime and looking at long animations on floppy (w/ sound).
#4420 ANIPRO RUN PROBLEM Message #4426
Ya know, I had the same problem. I cannot remember the solution just now. Maybe I increased the number of files in the config.sys??!
#4410 Vesa Problems Message #4425
My experience with the ATI VESA drivers from 1.1 on is that they don't work. When I installed version vvesaversion 1.0 ANI Pro started working no problem. Don't bother ATI, they will not figure this out for a million years. The person I talked to never heard of Ani Pro…
POCO functions Message #4424
Thanks alot for the reply. From Qtext one can continue or cancel (right mouse button).
I'm trying to use a AAPro FLC as bumpmap. It is 1024×768. All it does is cycle it's pallete. I get a invalid bitmap format. Doesn't 3DS support 1024×768 FLI files.
I thought going to HUGE model would remove this limitation of a 64K Data Segment??
Thanks for the POE info. I assume one must use a Pharlap Extender. I have been thinking about getting WatCom C++. Does this work?? I still have to try doing serial control via POCO before I decide that external code is required.
There is a file in the Lib 1 called sthele. I took this into Acad and wrote a DXF file. I then ran dxf3dsl.bat on the file. During welding it crashed, not gracefully either. I then ran just dxf3ds on the file and it worked. I then went into 3DS…
