David, I hadn't really noticed anything, but then I set mine up immediately in interlace with no contrasting colors. I did find someone else who had problems formatting a SCSI drive with the A2090 HD controller though.
Ron, I don't see any advantage to the SCSI side of the HD controller right now. It is rated at twice the data transfer rate of the ST 506 side, but the hardware speed doesn't matter right now with the software bottleneck of the current filehandler. With the rumored update…
Jerry, I can't really answer the questions about the PC side. I don't have the bridgecard. I do have the listing of the library calls available for interfacing the Amiga and PC sides. It should be available RSN (A2000) so it shouldn't be long before you can get answers to…
I'm not sure why the drive wouldn't format past cyl 80 as a SCSI. I would like to know if it was the drive, controller, or software; but it works as an ST 506, and I don't have the time to play with it.
Jerry, well, what else do you want to know?

Amiga 2000…WHEN?!
Message #83771
Not a thing, being only a Certified developer, I was surprised that I got it so soon from CBM. All cost was some $$$$. I love it, initially I had problems trying to use my SCSI HD with their controller. I couldn't format the HD past cyl 80. But the…

A2090 DiskPerf
Message #83197
Well here is some diskperf data on an A2090 HD controller with a 40Mb ST 506 drive ( NEC 5146 ). This was done on the first 10Mb partition of the disk, these are times reflecting when the partition was empty. File create/delete: create 8 files/sec, delete 27 files/sec Directory…

The driver is hddisk.device. I heard that about Format also. I got to the store today and got the parts I needed to reconfigure the drive as an ST 506, called NEC to check on the DIP switches, and now I'm running on all cylinders! Still don't know what the…

Don, I looked all thru the disk containing the installation software. There is no format command there for the HD. I have found someone on BIX who has the tech manual for my NEC drive. Maybe that will help. This is frustrating!

Larry, Thanks again for the info about GET_BLOCK. It seems to work just fine. Now to get back to work on that BU utility and PACK utility!
DOS packets
Message #82123
Larry, After reviewing the documentation I have on AmigaDOS, it appears that there is a way to get access to the sector contents. Even though I have used FileLocks before, somehow I never noticed the field in the FileLock which contains the disk block number. Now all I need to…

Well sweet sucess!! Here's the info on the header checksum. It is the encoded longword EOR's of the header starting at the format byte to the end of the o/s recovery info, then AND with x55555555 to mask out the clock bits. Andy Finkel was a great deal of help…

Well I've had some success with this checksum business. The data checksum in the header is calculated as follows: You have to do longword EOR's on the mfm encoded data block and then AND the result with x55555555. header data c/s = ( longword 1 EOR longword 2 EOR…longword 256…

#New Year

Happy New Year. Here's a prediction for the new year I'm sure most of us would like to see. May 1987 bring an ever expanding market for the Amiga; an explosion of new software that realizes the full potential of the Amiga; an abundance of hardware expansion products at a…
Sick Amiga
Message #46503
Dave, I agree, it appears that it is bombing out near the end of the boot process. But, I still haven't received any diagnostic info over the serial port. Do you have any more info about that? Information about the normal & sick Amiga boot process indications should be a…
