A few things, Dave. Release 11's AUTOSPOOL feature can now invoke a spooler and pass it the file name of the plot file that was just created. Waiting for AutoCAD to drop a file into the spooler directory is no longer necessary. IBM DOS 4 did support XON/XOFF (with the…
Refer to page 136 of the R11 Reference manual (pg. 102 in R10) under Control Codes and Special Characters. Also take a look at the README.DOC file for notes on the international version and differences between R10 and R11.
That is the classic symptom of a serial handshaking problem. My guess is that the plotter is not in XON/XOFF mode. See the AutoCAD Installation Guide under Houston Instrument DMP Series, for the proper cable and procedure to put the plotter into 9600 baud, 7 bit, even parity, 1 stop,…

Quattro Pro can undoubtably produce space-delimited ASCII files. Use ASCTEXT.LSP documented in the back of the AutoLisp Programmer's Reference to read them into an AutoCAD drawing. It's easier than it looks.

AutoCAD R10 c7 was the last Release 10 for the 286. It is a free update from R10 c2. Running it on a '486 however is just being silly. AutoCAD R10 c10a was the last version of Release 10 for the 386, and it is still available from Autodesk, and…
What is DWGDUMP and what is it supposed to do? Has it ever worked before? Please be painfully specific and we'll try to help. Most of us prefer lowercase, by the way.
In your menu under ***icon, do you call for a slide with something like "pipe(wrench)"? Where 'pipe' is the name of the Slide Library (.SLB file), and 'wrench' is the name of a slide within it.
Just watch out for the i486sx. It has no coprocessor. Some marketing guy thought that one up. "Does your dog bite?" "No." "Hello puppy . . . " "Yoww! I thought you said your dog didn't bite." "That is not my dog."
Have you run MacAutoCAD on the Quadra? If so, does it hurt? Or is it a Good Thing? I've had a few inquiries, but I don't even know what a Quadra looks like.
I don't look at it as "competition" and "finger-pointing" (although there is enough of that), so much as trying to find The Right Way to do something. It's hard enough getting three people to agree on where to eat lunch without having to deal with VESA standards, motherboard buss architecture,…

Please have your dealer contact Autodesk Customer Service for a network authorization code. He will need to supply them with the network licence manager id code that "elmadmin -c" returns.
There are two ways to authorize AutoCAD for the Sun SparcStation. 1. You buy one copy of AutoCAD. You tell your dealer the hostid of one machine, and the serial number of the AutoCAD. He gives you an authorization code. That AutoCAD can be run on that station and that…

R10 c2 and R10 c7 are not all that different; it certainly shouldn't be a problem. There are no switches; R10 is R10 and R11 is R11. Can you give us some details? An error message, for instance? How do you transport the DWG/DXF files? Maybe you could upload a…

Let's be reasonable. Is it even shipping yet? First I've heard of it. We do not yet have a Real Mode ADS library for Turbo C++. When we do, it will probably work. Sorry, but I don't have any timeframe on it. The fact that it now supports DPMI is…

Message #21576
There are a couple of LaserJet III ADI drivers in Library 5 (Hardware/Drivers/ADI) that will allow you to assign pen speeds to one of 10 grayscale settings in the printer. I know that the file there called LJIII.ZIP will do that.

Yes, it is a terrible catch-22. The hardware vendors don't want to write drivers for every application ever written, and the software vendors don't want to write drivers for every piece of hardware on the planet. You can't blame either one of them. I know! Let's dump it on the…
#hpgl-256 color mapping
Message #21566
AutoCAD Release 11 only supports 15 pens. The Autodesk Device Interface (ADI) specification currently supports 128, but I don't know how they are mapped. The ADI spec will probably support 256 pens in Release 12. If you want an ADI driver, please ask the hardware manufacturer. The ADI spec was…

PC-NFS and XREF's
Message #21563
Right you are, Mike. The bug has to do with the way we deal with the .XLG file (Xref Log). It takes somewhere between 5-20 times longer to load a drawing with many Xrefs from Sun to DOS (Sun to Sun is OK). PC-NFS seems to be the most adversely…
