Stephen, I have part of the thread, it only has 6 messages. Today I saw the thread you are looking for in the "Take 5/ Want Ads" section with 28 messsages, try looking there. Regards…………..Rick – Technical Animations
Stephen, Great, tell Mark I sent you. I don't think he will hang-up on you. Regards…………..Rick – Technical Animations
Rob, Thanks Rob, I will take those words as being a positive sign, but not a guarantee. Regards…………..Rick – Technical Animations
Stephen, I didn't have to wait till I was rendering to take a break, just do a redraw on all four screens would do it. Regards…………..Rick – Technical Animations
Bob, Thanks Bob for letting me know for sure, it just didn't seem to make sense to keep contact info about good companies out of the forum. >>Unlike NORMAL (g,d&r) people, vendors actually don't tend to mind a million phone calls.
Stephen, >>Thanx for the info. Where is Mind Computer Consultants? A phone, e-mail address or CIS number would help. Send via e-mail (my nickel) if you don't want to post this on the forum (guidelines?).
Douglas, I just knew I should have bought the P133, I guess you don't need too many of systems when they run that fast. How much do you want for your P133 when you upgrade to the P150? I went from a 386-20 to my Pentium 100, when I rendered…
Stephen, >>Any info you can provide (like who your rep was) would be a help.
John, >>I am surprised that I haven't seen any discussion on EDO ram when discussing system speeds. The Micron Millennia Plus ships with EDO ram. In several tests that I have seen, EDO equiped machines run quite a bit faster than the same system with standard ram.
Harley, Those times sure got me beat. I assume by "All defaults" you mean that you used Metal shading and Mapping was on? Regards…………Rick – Technical Animations
Robert, Can you give us any hope of seeing a Millennium driver in the near future? Regards………Rick – Technical Animations
John, I do have the Triton chipset, I heard that it is faster than the Neptune. But next week it will be the Super Triton II and time goes on. I think the P100 talks outside the chip at 33MHz while the P120 talks at 30MHz. That might explain why…
Matthew, >>The error when you select no display with without disk output is normal. The reason that this is used (I think) for these benchmarks is to take the video card out of the loop.>Your system is pretty quick, but try with shading to metal, changing from phong to metal…
Martin, You are right, this stuff does not pay the bills. Regards……..Rick – Technical Animations
Craig, It sounds like you would NOT be able to use a still photo then. You need moving video to show the ground that was covered during the sequence. Could you do this with a stationary camera looking in the right direction, this would greatly simplify the animation and reduce…
Martin, >>I suspect your cache type is reponsible for a slight 4-10% speed increase over my system. I remember Gary Yost saying that that new cache design could boost performance up to 10%.>I think the RAM speed is less significant. I've tried 70ns versus 80ns with no speed difference in…
Stephen, Thanks for the tip, when I get a chance I will give it a try. Regards………..Rick – Technical Animations
Craig, >>The video background would not have anything moving between the camera and camera target, its just to capture the visual context of the incident.
Craig, >>On the cockpit view thing, would this have to be "modelled", or could I get some calibrated pictures of the cockpit from the inside and give this to an animator to work with?>What would that entail, in terms of time (read:MONEY)
Stephen, >>Have you got some kind of graphic accelerator card in that thing?
Martin, >>maybe you hid something .
Terry, >>Dither 256 or true color, 16 or 24 bit depth?>If it's none of that, then you are just obviously running an illegal restrictor plate.
Stephen, Here are the number you wanted with Metal Shading. SuperMicro P100; P55CMS w/256k piplined burst cache; 32mb of 60ns ram File: Chevy.3ds/936,668kb/1-15-95 @ 12:00am Pixel Size: 1.1 Display: Null Save File: No Shading: Metal Mapping-Off Mapping-On 640x480x1 1:03(+4) 1:28(+4) 1024x768x1 2:08(+9) 2:57(+8) ( ) denotes additional seconds for Metal…
Martin, I went back and copied the original 3ds4 set file and tried again with no change. When I click on render, I get a message that says "WARNING: Rendering to NULL without disk output. Are you sure this is what you want?" Is this what everyone else is getting?…
John, >>BTW- I don't believe Phong is the default setting, rendering it with Phong yielded a 11 second improvement over Metal at 1024 here.
Craig, >>I'm looking at needing about 3 to 3.5 minutes of finished product.> … and modeling of two aircraft,>live video footage of the background>Are project bids the norm, or is it based on seconds of finished animation as I've read elsewhere?
Terry, Yes, I'm using the default pixel size of 1.1. There must be something different about my settings, but I have not figured it out yet. Are you looking at the numbers with or without mapping? When I turned on Metal shading and rendered 640x480x1 w/o mapping the time went…
Martin, >>I assume that's a Pentium 133, isn't it? Impressive results. Does it have EDO ram?
Reza, Here is my results for the rendering benchmarks: Pixel Size:1.1 Display:Null Save File:No Mapping-Off Mapping-On 640x480x1.0 0:59 1:23 1024x768x1.0 1:58 2:50 SuperMicro P55CMS motherboard with 256k pipelined busrt cache and 32mb ram. Regards………….Rick – Technical Animations
Eric, I will dl the text file you mentioned. You certainly have a unique upgrade policy for your users, I like what you have done there. When you dl "forlst.txt" then you will see all the different fields there are to fill in. Please keep all the headers, that way…
Eric, I have a few questions about your IPAS for skid marks. Will it work with MAX, if not what will your upgrade policy be. What is the price of your IPAS, I think list prices are OK on the forum. Any other helpful programs? Eric, I maintain a list…
Neile, I have the 3DS first and then the Liquid Speed hardware lock, no problem ever on two of my machines. Regards………..Rick – Technical Animations
Mike, >>Out of curiosity, are you in New England? Just wondered how you came to buy from Mark since he's in CT.
Mike, >>Mark is a hard guy to tie down.
Mike, That's Mark DeMazza at MIND COMPUTER CONSULTANTS. You can reach him at (203)669-0895 or CIS# 71203,170. I have the SuperMicro P55CMS motherboard with 256k of piplined burst cache. This motherboard has 4 ISA and 4 PCI slots, none of which are shared ___and___ it's made in the USA. Mark…
John, Yes John you are right, I have the SuperMicro P55CMS motherboard with 256k of piplined burst cache. Mark DeMazza configured my computer, you can reach him at (203)669-0895 or CIS# 71203,170. I found Mark on the PC Hardware forum, he has been great to work with and knows NT…
Mike, I have a SuperMicro motherboard with 4 PCI and 4 ISA slots, none shared. My builder installed a different heatsink so that I now have 3 full length PCI slots. The motherboard comes with 2 serial and 1 parallel port. Maybe this would be a possible option for you?…
John, >>I can only manage two full length PCI cards on my SuperMicro mobo without losing the heat/sink fan combo.
Paul, Another fact you might want to consider is the that people read with the center 5 degrees of their vision. Another words you can't read with your peripheral vision. Just try looking at the side of the monitor while reading this message. See what I mean. Regards………Rick – Technical…
David, Oops, I just assumed that they would be showing output from 3DS Max. Thanks for setting me straight, I need alittle slapping around once in awhile. Regards……….Rick – Technical Animations
Jonas, Thanks for sending the Max demotape, I'm looking forward to seeing for myself what the Max can do. Regards………….Rick – Technical Animations
I will searh the library as you suggested. Steve, >>I would like to find out if there is a sales video available so that I can see what 3d studio can do. Also if there are any classes in my area.
Steve, There is a file in one of the libraries that lists all the different books that have been published about 3D Studio. Try searching on the keyword "book". Hope this helps, maybe if you could ask a more specific question that might help the forum give you a better…
Jeff, >>Unfortunately camera movement is essential because of the point of view we are trying to show here.>I'm in a holding pattern at the moment, but I'll get back to you if I need use of your pentium machine.
Greg, Your messages are the only ones that I have a problem with on a regular basis and only for the last couple of weeks. I've been using CompuServe Navigator 1.1 for sometime now, but I have installed it on my new computer. Do you have any idea if OZCIS…
Paul, I'm using CompuServe Navigator 1.1. I'm not having a problem with anyone elses messages on a regular basis. Your message looks just fine, …interesting. I see from Greg's message, that he is also using OZCIS, I wonder if that has something to do with why you have no problem…
Jeff, If the camera is not moving during certain periods, then render all the objects that are ***NOT*** moving and use the image as a background. This would help tremendously, since all those objects are only rendered once and not every frame. With your limited time, having the camera motionless…
Thomas, All my comments are from a forensics point of view, if this is not what you are wanting then let me know. I've never used a plug-in for getting vehicles to move, the numbers have always come from the expert. There is however a couple of programs that do…
Greg, All your messages are not reformattable, every paragraph is one long line of text. Just thought I would let you know. Regards…………..Rick – Technical Animations
Nancy, >>In 3D Studio Applied, the Release 4 Supplement, the fourth chapter shows you how to create scripts that take data from an ascii file and convert it into keys for a vehicle.>Modifying the script file that comes with the book would let you have a solution in a couple…
