#58002 #QB Quirks Message #58158
From: Brian Cowan Amiga Vendor Forum · Forum Business June 3, 1993 7:15 PM
Let me get this straight, you were trying to back up a file that was open? I'm not sure that this will work. Depends on how PW opens files. Probably locks them though. I'll bet that QB doesn't gracefully handle this. I never could see the purpose in multi-tasking while…

Thanks, it will have to wait though. My close-out 2024 (destined for my 3000) arrived DOA, and now I'm spending scads of $$$ to get a 1942 monitor for my 1200. Brian — Cruising on AutoPilot…..

No, it DOES sound like a printer driver version mismatch. Check to make sure you put the right version of the GPFAX.driver in your devs:printers drawer. Mine is 3680 bytes in size and dated 28-Nov-92. I'm using "GPFax 2.30 Supra 7.4.93" myself on a 2.1 equipped Amiga 3000. // Brian…

Or if you needed a second serial port, network connectivity, etc. My 1200 is still awaiting a monitor of it's own. The flipping switchbox was a non-optimal solution, and besides, it broke. // Brian — Cruising on AutoPilot….. \X/

Depends on the dealer. I have a dealer that 1) _refused_ to give me a firm quote on a 1200 with 85MB hard drive (one day later Purchased from Computability) and 2) put my MBX-1200z order on eternal backorder (Purchased from DeVine computers, First MO place with it IN STOCK).…

My, probably more limited experience is that C= is less forgiving of these "oddball" scsi devices. If they "had" to use the Mac-B**tardised scsi connection, they could be more forgiving of other device's oddities. Especially given that my CD-ROM drive has some (oddities, that is). It's not. 10baseT can actually become more expensive than thinnet. But in some cases it may be worth the extra cost. The star configuration makes cable troubleshooting much easier. There is no need for cable termination, since the card and hub/concentrator take care of that. On a strict cost comparison,…

Have you considered getting SCSIMounter? (SCSIMT.L?? in the Libs here) It's the workaround for booting the system without a cartridge in removable drives. Run this after the drive is ready, and it will list all devices on the SCSI bus, and allow you to select one for mounting or dismounting…

Now that's a nice rig. I'm not too sure if it would work for ZIII cards, not surprising given that I'm not fluent in the ZIII spec. I have seen bus extenders mess up timing adjustments, but I expect that you've battled that when designing your card tester. // Brian…

On the 3000, (and 3000T) the scsi.device is in the ROM. That's the easy part. The not-so-easy part, you'll need a CD-ROM "filesystem" to let the Amiga find the files on the disk. (PC equivalent: MSCDEX.EXE) 3 companies (that I'm aware of) make such things: Canadian Prototype Replicas (CPR) Xetec,…

You must eat up a lot of A2000's and 3000's. Those connectors only have so much life in them. After a while, when you get big enough, the effort needed to test EVERY board out of the shop becomes just too time (and possibly computer) consuming to be practical. 100%…
