#121839 #Alpha Message #121856
I've been lurking for a couple years or so. I would join in every once in a while, but kept quiet for the most part. (I still stay fairly quiet) David
#121777 #Alpha Message #121804
I hope you didn't expect a short answer. I got 3DS shortly before R2 came out (not too long after I got the computer). I was at a dealer picking up a copy of Ani pro (thinking to myself "why am I spending ALL of my money on this stuff?"…
#121664 Starmake Message #121770
From: David Stinnett Autodesk Multimedia Forum · IPAS Usage September 2, 1994 3:36 PM
I was messing around with Stars3 the other day and after about twenty minutes of playing, I realised that the number of stars I was entering in was being ignored because it was using the default Earth.stb. When I made sure the star database field was empty, then it would…

Don't forget the rest… "How to mutate with 3DS – in three easy steps" 1. Buy 3DS. 2. Use 3DS. 3. Sit back and don't fight it. David (and to think, I bought my first computer three years ago because I saw some cool looking flight sim games in a…

Well, the Yost Blur IPAS would be the ideal way to go, but using what you have, here's something that should work… Take your foreground image of the shrooms and make a material that uses it as a texture map, and use the image's alpha as an opacity map. Make…
>> Exabyte is 30 megs a minute on large files. A typical Targa is just over a meg of data. Thats two minutes to write a single frame of data. PMJI. I don't really have an opinion on this one way or the other, but I was just wondering how…
#121570 #3D programs on Mac Message #121620
FWIW, I had no problems whatsoever installing Myst. When I run Windows game stuff, I use the standard MS superVGA drivers (640 x 480, 256 colors), this way I think I'm avoiding some of the usual video driver problems that some people might have with certain games. David

>>The mutation is coming along nicely. Whew! So that's what that growth coming out the left side of my head is. It had me worried, but I guess I can cancel that doctor's appointment then? David

>> How else would I do a cross fade but fade one out while the other fades in? When doing a cross-dissolve from one image to another, you only need to specify the fade for one image, not both. When image A starts the fade in, it is 100% transparent,…

I haven't heard of Xres. Does it incorparate FITS (live picture) technology, or something like it? And is this a Mac or PC thing… or both? David
#121287 #Alpha Message #121447

Thanks. It'll be a little while before I need to do that anyway, so I'll just call around to see who can do what when the time comes. I would be doing over 3000 frames, so the betacam rental idea might not be a bad one, considering it might be…

#120925 #Alpha Message #120956
If you have photoshop, the easiest way to do this is just blur the whole foreground file. When you took the 32 bit file into Pshop and blurred it, you only affected the RGB channels. Having an effect or filter process alpha is an option in Pshop, so you have…

I had this happen a couple of times too in the past week or two, only the message count for a thread would read, as an example, 4, but i could only get to 3 of them. I would know #4 was a message for me, but even though I…

If it's not what I suggested, then I have no idea. You might want to explain the problem again and address it to Jonas at Adesk. He might be able to help you track it down. David
#120717 #Greg's new toy Message #120731
Thanks for clarifying things a bit more. I'll have to call around to see who will accept DAT backups. I have a PAR, and while it's a wonderful thing, I would like to have some of my final animations put out via abekas to betacamSP, just to have them on…

Out of curiosity, what is the "PC – TAR" program needed for? What would be the process of rendering to YUV with your IPAS and putting them to DAT tape for dumping to an Abekas (provided I can find a sevice bureau that can use DAT tape… is this a…
I dunno, it's not supposed to be out for a few weeks yet. I'm not sure what you mean by "texture commands", but the present release (2.5) has various commands that let you specify an image and another to change the first based on the values in the second, whith…

You can try two things. Copy your COMMAND.COM file to your 3ds directory, and if that doesn't work, also add a line to your Config.sys that reads… SHELL=COMMAND.COM /E:1024 /P The "1024" number can be changed if needed. This is my guess, it should solve the problem. David

>>I personally like working freeform with NURBS curves/surfaces, Out of curiosity, have you tried the demo 3ds NURBS modeller in the libraries here? I haven't grabbed it yet, but I'd be curious to know how useful it would be. David
FWIW, the new Photoshop 3.0 now has separate object layers, just like Composer, and each layer will have its own 8 bit alpha channel also. I think within the next year, this feature will be standard fare among paint and retouching packages (it's about time). 🙂 David
#120035 Corrupted PAR file? Message #120073
I missed the beginning of this thread, but in case you're unaware, 32 bit targas (rendered with alpha ON) require extra memory allocated with the par driver. Type PARDRV /B:1500 before starting the par software and see if that helps. If you've already tried this, then I'm at a loss…
>>Cetasian Cetacean 🙂 David
It was done as a personal project, for fun/demo purposes. I have done some other animals, but they're not really finished yet. Look for whale2.jpg and bkwidw.jpg, that I uploaded a few months ago, (if you haven't seen them yet). David

#118116 2 way tiling images Message #118174
The Kai's Powertools 2.0 Photoshop compatable plug-in for windows (now shipping) has a seamless tile filter. If you use it with Photostyler 2.0, you must get the PS 2.0a update from Aldus for it to work properly. David
#new whale image Message #117864
Just in case there's anybody out there who's not tired of my whale yet, I've uploaded a new image of it to the library here. It's a zipped 800 x 600 Targa, and is by far my favorite whale image, showing a mom and her calf (much better than the…

You should be able to do this, but it takes a few steps. Blur should have had an option included that would allow it to effect the alpha channel of an image, allowing for a smooth composite, but even though it doesn't, you can still do it manually. First, render…
