It's an Amiga 1080 monitor. Contrast is centered. I now have some colors that are useable in low light conditions in interlace. It would be nice to have it useable in any lighting conditions but it looks like I'll have to wait till I can afford a better monitor. Barry
Thanks, Peter.
OK, Don, we'll do that reeaall soooon now. Polarizing sunglasses and a polarizer for the screen. Let me guess, when the flicker gets to much you just turn your head and it ALL goes away. How long has it been since your last vacation? Thanks, Barry
Vic, You lost me. How do you set the screen to the denominations you suggested? I've been using the slider gadgets on the "preferences" screen. They seem much to sensitive with a very small movemment going from very dark and hardly readable to very bright with lotso flicker. Is there…
Thats pretty much the setup I have now. Can you tell me what a contrast enhancement filter is? Is it hardware? Soemthing that goes over the screen? barry
Thanks for the info!
Interlace Flicker
Message #116529
Is there any way to reduce or elminate interlace flicker without buying a long persistance monitor, setting all the colors to neutral grey (almost) or turning the contrast down so that everything is a neutral grey?

Message #116296
I've tried to do the same thing without much luck. Its really nice that DMCS lets you play with internal voices but for serious work I go with MIDI. If you do end up finding some that are really worth while let me know. And if you want to use…

If you really want to improve the sound quality you may wish to consider buying a MIDI instrument or 2. This is considerably more expensive than buying a disk or 2, though. The prices at MAO are pretty good (go MAO at the !) I've dealt with them a couple…

SNDSCAPE MIDI CLOCK FIX
Message #115859
Rick, If you're going to call Mimetics you might want to find out from them if this "problem" is related to a paticular version of SS and if the SmoothClocker is PD, I remember there was some question about that. If it is perhaps someone can upload it here.

Message #115510
I've never noticed any problems with the clock module. Perhaps an earlier release had a _real_ probelme with the clock and later editions could be "improved" with a smoother clock. I've also used it with an external clock (that locks MIDI with Time Code) for sound track work and never…

FOUND it no.115020 Fm. Richard Rae, To Barry Massoni. "Dynamic Studio is a multi-track MIDI simulator…" Ahh, could you have meant that the Digital Drums is a drum simulator? And come to think of it, what is an Electronic Musician? Last night I drove to the all night book store…
Wait Rick, I thought that you mentioned "MIDI simulator" in one of your messages to me?
I'll be watching for the review! You might also consider reviewing the stuff from Dr. T., Caged Artist, Sound Quest and Traingle Audio-just to name a few 8). By the way. What is a "MIDI simulator"?8} (for people with beards?)
Just what I needed to know. Thanks again!
Thanks Steve, I was wondering why I'd never heard of it. Are you up one the current Casio line? I'm looking for a full sized MIDI, sampling synth for which there are *existing* patch librarian/editors (running on the Amiga naturally). I've never heard of Dynamic Studio, is it a sequencer,…
Rick, I've *heard* there are a lot of people writing patch editors/librarians. When I see them I'll believe you. Do you know of any commercial or PD products for Yamaha TX or FB that I might have missed? Barry
Barry, For a sequencer you might try Mimetics SoundScape Pro MIDI Studio. It should work with any MIDI keyboard. There are a few other Amiga sequencers around and each has its following. As for patches, thats another story. I don't know wether HT and CZ patch es are compatible. I…
Rick, Just becuase the house is on fire you don't need to throw on the dog. In other words, even if the frequency response isn't great thats no reason to build a digitizer with a 30 db S/N ratio. It's better to have nothing in the mid-high end than hiss!…
OK, Rick, I'll buy that (and probably in more ways than one). I'm not sure if it would need to be 8 channel, the samples would eat a lot of RAM-but perhaps it could be a trade off-sample on one channel and you record 8 times longer. Might also be…

Rick, "theoretical best S/N ratio you can get is 52db", and you wondered why I thought something like the Hybrid Arts offboard 16 bit sampler for the Atari was a good idea for the Amiga. Barry

Dom, I have the Mimetics Digitizer and unlike soundscape it is nothing to brag about. I have never heard anything with so much noise in it but I'm told that none of the Amiga digitizers are worth their weight in dirt. I am using it, and I am getting decent…

Dom, I know that there are shielded self-powered monitors made. I don't know any brand and model numbers, nor do I know of any way to shield them. A trip to your local pro audio shop may be in order. Barry
Rick, Why do a lot of your messages have "8)"'s in them? Barry
Dom, For self powered speakers check out the Fostex 6301's. I think they run $150 or so a pair. Thye are not sheilded for use near a video display so plan on putting them at least 6" away or else you'll get all kinds of funny colors on your monitor.…
Dom, CZL, in DL 15 is a great shareware voice librairian for the CZ sequencers. Barry
Bspread
Message #113410
There is now an updated version of Bryan Catley's "Bspread" in DL 8. I was able to correct a couple of typos in the original upload. Now the "Add Row" feature works and you can RE-load a saved sheet. Anyone looking for a nice PD spreadsheet should check this one…

Hi, Ben. Remember me? I was bugging you with a bunch of CAD questions a while back. Anyway, you mentioned that there was going to be a "do-it-yourself" plotter driver (ala scheme) for PCLO-is it available? Do you know what kind of driver the Roland plotters use? Thanks again. Barry
Ben, When I had nothing connected to the parallel port, why didn`t I get a "system request" asking me to check printer and paper? Barry
Thanks for the information.
Interesting. And before I say that I have no idea wy RPN is RPN I`ll read the reply-but if nobody gets it you have to tell us! Barry
Are you talking about the Graphtec plotters? I really don`t know. What I do know (from hanging around other forums) is that it is supposedly a very old command set that was piped through the serial port. From its references I take it that is is still used by IBM…
What???? Parallel.device???? No wonder it doesn`t work! I have a serial printer! Supposed to be Epson compatible though, works with the Amiga "Epson driver", and with my Epson PX-8 laptop (which I`m online now with). Barry
Ben, About the "print" function on the PCLO demo. I`m using an Amiga 500 with 1 Meg of memory. I doubt that it can`t load do to a memory shortage. The printer I`m using is a Seikosha SP-1000AS (Epson compatible, made by Seikosha-Epson). It prints both graphics and text. It…

Ben, "Watanebe"=Western Graphtec plotter language emulation (its not an acronymn, I don`t know what the hell it means). Can PCLO drive that? You said that tou would check to see if the "print" function had been disabled from PCLO, did you find out yet? If it hasn`t then it would…
Thanks, Rick!
David, Thanks for the reply. I think the problem is solved. Its tedious but if I use a PD utility called TXT (in tool box) I can get the output to CR+LF, then, on the CP/M end, use a utility that converts ASCII to Wordstar. Wordstar then "recognizes" the file.…
Thanks, Ben. I have a few more questions but I really have to run. I`ll get back to you. Barry
OK, re-phrase time. What I am doing is writing on an Epson PX-8 (an old CP/M laptop) using portable Wordstar. There is no good spell check feature for this {the PX-8} machine so I transfer the file to ASCII and use ispell for the Amiga. Then I transfer back. What…

Soundscape
Message #92376
Rick, I thought you might know the answer to this. In DL 15 I saw a file called EchoEc.Arc. Its supposed to be a module for Soundscape. The "description" stated that the icon worked. Not much of a desrciption, huh? Do you know what it does? Thanks. Barry

Ben, I downloaded the "test" versions of PCLO, PCLOjr, and Scheme. They are nice but I have a few questions. Again-Plotter Drivers. What is available for PCLO and PCLOjr? Can either of them drive a "Watanebe" plotter? Ca either of them drive a HPGL plotter- with the appropriate driver. I…
Joel, I`m not that familiar with plotters. What is the maximum size of a "B" size plotter? It sounds like I could get by with an "A" size since I have never designed a PCB wider than 8.5" (untill after I buy an "A" size probably). Barry
Thanks, Ben. Talk about a speedy reply! Took you about 5 minutes. Barry
Ben, I just noticed that you suggested Dynamic Cad to Joel Helbert. Why not one of the SoftCircuit packages? One other thing, I now have a way of downloading for my Amiga-but it is rather funky and I am limited to a 360K size. What are the sizes of the…
