Hi Lee, Could you explain to me the difference between a NAAUG 3DS user group, and a 3DA&A group? FWIW, I am located on the border of ND and MN. Paul S.

Thanks Brian. I just called and got R4 registered… Strange, I sent in the registration card immediately. One of the spaces on the registration form was for my R3 serial number….. which of course was on the disk I gave my dealer to send in for the upgrade. Paul S.

I liked the Guys and Dolls image a lot. The tutorial was kind of bare bones, but I should think a more robust tutorial would make a great chapter in a 3DS Tips & Tricks book. I hope to see it published! I'm wondering if I was missing part of…
FWIW, someone months ago said they had done a bunch of tests, and decided that 1.6 was the best gamma for the PAR. I've been using 1.8 myself. Paul S.

#160791 PAR – access denied Message #160991
>> In the interest of PAR correctness , it allows you to _process_ larger files, the PAR always stores the files at the same resolution (752×480).
In addition to the alpha thing John mentioned, you might need to add "/B:1500" to your "DPS_PAR\pardrv" line in your autoexec.bat. Allows you to store larger files. Paul S.

One thing to keep in mind when creating text in the 2D Shaper is to make sure each text entry contains (what's the word?) high and low letters, like a p and a b. Otherwise, by scaling the text uniformily upon creation with the ctrl key, any "short letter" entries…
I would select all of the far end vertices of the boards to be cut, except the vertices that will stay put on the first board to be cut (clear? ). Then move/vertex (selected) to get the appropriate angle for the first board… the other boards will now be the…
If you are just trying to trim off the ends of some of the boards, I would suggest scaling them instead. Select the boards to be trimmed, then choose modify/axis/align/object and select the opposite end of one of the boards to be trimmed. Then select modify/object/2d scale, hit the space…

Glad you're up and running. FWIW, the chapel renders in 3:37/4:04 on my Pentium 60, at 512×486. Regarding the missing 64+ MB of RAM, Jonas posted a message to someone about this today. Search for messages from him today, 73172, 1351 and you'll find it. Paul S.
Michael, I'll get back to you in the next day or two, I'm currently away from my office. Paul S.
I've been happy to see certain forum members faces when they have been published, such as in Inside 3DS and 3DS Special Effects. I really like attaching a face to a name… it's fun to see how they match up, as you said. Sometimes I've been close, and sometimes way…

I probably had the 230 MB Pinnacle for about three months when it became less noisy. It made some rather strange start/stop whirring noises when newer also, kind of like a fan starting and stopping, which made me wonder if it might croak soon. It didn't, and it now runs…

SE to AO >> i think you have your imformation backwards , it better in field than frames.
I would suggest giving your cone object a self-illuminated material, then it will show up whether or not it is in the light cast by the spot. To make sure the mesh cone is within the spot's cone, try using the spot's viewport (if you aren't already) to check for…

Did you solve the new frames for IK? Load IK and check out the range of frames in the lower left corner. If you didn't change anything it will still say 0 to 180. Paul S.

Murph, There's a parameter in 3ds.set with which to number rendered files sequentially as they're created. Good for backwards rendering, rendering every Nth frame, etc., and the output will still be name0000.tga, name0001.tga… I see your two cents and raise you two cents. Paul S.
In addition to the correct 3ds.set line, did you delete the semicolon at the beginning of the line? Easy to miss sometimes. 🙂 Paul S.

Hi Jonas, I had some rather bizarro 3DS behavior tonight. Switched from the KF to the ME, auto-put a changed material… but the rendered scene was not the angle I had just rendered. Went back to the KF, and my camera dummy was all messed up. It's position keys look…

Andrew, It's best to check your 3DS gamma in the mat. ed. anyway, because it's the only module of the 3DS interface that your likely (is worthwhile) to run in 24-bit color. Paul S.
