Hey Martin! Long time, no seeum. >hey, buy the book you cheapskate! I bought one of yours . Hehehe, how's about I give you a buck and you tell me. Thanks for the tip. However, it's pretty depressing that the Yosters havent come up with a better solution for this,…
ok… I don't have the book, can you give me the general idea? Mapping the background onto a 3D object wont work because of the extreme perspective. Duplicating the objects and assigning a grey transparent material wont work because the geometry is too complex. -MM
Oops, I guess the section numbers have changed since I last logged in. Sorry for posting this message in the wrong section, sysops. -MM
Sure! Sounds like a "good trade". I've got some plant fossils that my great grandfather found during his working days in the coal mines of West Virginia. Died of Black Lung long before I showed up however. -MM

Hello Gary, Long time no see. I even foresook my usual wool suit for short and a t-shirt in your honor at the NAB 3DS/XAOS press conference. But alas, you were doing some kind of "anniversary" thing. What are those anniversary things anyway? I asked my wife, but she refused…

How am I supposed to know that!?! The only time I see you is when I've either had too many beers or been working over 35 hours straight! Next time we see each other, stick a business card in my ear before I pass out. -MM
Hi Nicholas, "The Magic of Image Processing" could be called "Digital Image Manipulation for Dummies". However, it does include quite a few in-depth topics. Here are a few, Morphing, Scanners and Scanning, The Ethics of Image Manipulation, Stereoscopic Images, Image Compression, PhotoCD, Lots of tutorials, Real Life Applications of Image…
Thanks! But sorry, my Thursday nights are enternally booked… If something frees up I'll get in touch. BTW how are things at Software Sorcery? I would like to see how my animations turned out in the final game, but I've been too busy surfing and writing to stop by. -MM
Yes, the final version came out much better. BTW, how are sales of WinImages:Morph? Blackbelt called me about two days after the book hit the stores and told me that 5 readers had ordered the full version! Don't forget to plug it when you sell Blackbelt's wares. I believe its…

Hey! Now I want in on this! Forget the shot gun, lets get Uzzies! I just had to suffer that ride about a month ago, arrgh! -MM
Oh… Thanks! I nearly forgot about that. I don't even know which image he used. I'm up here in the Great White North (Canada eh?) right now having the time of my life getting my wife kicked, and myself nearly bucked off, kicked at and generally abused by lousey horses…
Hey, glad you liked it! Especially since I did the palms, banana trees and the fountains. It was funny that the client liked the courtyard fountain so much that they had us re-render it so the camera would pause in front of the fountain so they could see the water!…
Boy, you gotta watch out for those characters in San Diego… -MM
Yea, don't forget to mention how they decided to pave your parking lot one Saturday. So after one of my 30+ hour shifts I tried to go home for some sleep only to find my car had been towed… -MM
Ah, Chiggers… I havent had that pleasure for a few years. I think the last time was in '89 when I found some really cool plant patterns in the hills of West Virginia. You can almost always find something digging around abandoned coal mines. -MM

I agree about Jurassic Park! The best CGI I've seen in my life! Maybe my wish-list items regarding skeletal/muscular animation/modeling will make it in R4 … Anyway, I'm heading to the Great White North for the summer. Time to hang out with the in-laws and play paleontologist for a while……

Babylon 5
Message #37178
Oh, I know.. the dialog on that show was HORRIBLE! I think it was written by a 3rd grader! "You're a security guard… should'nt you be… securing something?" Give me a break! I absolutly HATE IT when sci-fi movies use 1980's cliches! -MM
BTW, How about that copy of "Universe Today" newspaper that the person was reading in the bar? When I saw that, I was impressed. Any show willing to laugh at itself is OK with me. -M Ex-Moonlighting Fan M
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the "Ninja Rollercoaster" restraints for the shuttle that travels thought the middle of B-5… -MM

Babylon 5 on 3DS?!?
Message #35706
From a recent Syndesis press release: "Top Toaster animators relied on the 3D Studio conversion for models for "Babylon 5," "Seaquest" and Todd Rundgren's NUtopia videos." So if this is true, then the Almighty Amiga modelers are unable to stand up to 3D Studio? I love it… in your face…
Sorry Nicholas, I've been too busy with other projects to even download the message base since December. Maybe this summer I can get all the threads from someone who did download them. If so, I'll combine the new stuff with all the old threads since the forums beginning, and upload…

Gag, umfff, choke, choke…. Somebody pop Jacks head before it gets too big… -MM
Pat, We used a program called "collage" for the screen captures we did for "Using AutoCAD r12" from QUE. The Collage program captures screens to 24Bit Targas, which you can really fine tune with a program like PhotoStyler. Our screen captures from ACAD12 and 3DSr2 came out great! I'll try…

Dave, Try Daves Targa Animator (TGAANI) I believe it works on GIFs as well as Targa images. If not, you can convert your GIFs to TGAs and then to a FLI. Or if the naming convention is a problem, do a: DIR *.GIF /ON > BATCH.BAT And use your favorite…

Pat, you can download ASOFTM.ZIP which has about 6 months of message threads from this forum. You could also buy the new book "Using AutoCAD r12" from Que, it has about 30 pages of tips and tricks for 3DSr2. -MM
In a previous message I covered a technique of creating colored shadows that might also work for this. For the full text, download the ASOFTM message base. Although it is mainly for getting colored shadows, I'm afraid it will not save you any time. Basically it involves assigning everything a…
