I would be interested in knowing the lowest prices ( and sources ) that others have been able to find for write once optical media (CD). My local pro audio dealer is selling the 63 minute discs for $35.00 ea, and I wonder if better prices are available.

Thanks for the clarification. I was under the impression that the Pinnacle only worked with the 63 minute discs because of their advertising. I guess I misunderstood…

Answers to some of your questions — You need a combination of hardware and software to make write once CDROMS. Various manufacturers make CD- ROM recorders. Beware of Pinnacle Micro's drive, which, although is the cheapest at ca. $4,000 also only allows writing to the lower capacity discs. We recently…

Good question – if I can (some day!) arrange a test, I will. Also, besides the issue of whether the DOS mounter or equivalent could allow the SCSI PC drive on the mac, is the whole issue of hard drive driver software. Murky at best…

Thanks to Kathy and all others on this thread.Yes, we will be using software to allow the Mac to see and manipulate DOS files. Actually, now, my network folks tell me that we CAN do a big transfer like that over the ethernet backbone. It will trash the net for…

Strange situation here. We will soon have a CD ROM recorder system built around a Mac platform. The software will write CD ROM discs in IBM format (ISO 9660), as long as we can get the IBM files inside the Mac. For small files, this is no problem – we…

Yes, universities REALLY have to think about these things these days. Our motivating factors are 1) We do a fair amount of audio CD premastering – at $several hundred dollars each to turn a DAT into a 1630 master, we can save a fair amount of money. and 2) The…

Here in the Music Department of my University we recently purchased a high end digital audio editing workstation (runs on a Mac) made by a company called Sonic Solutions. They also sell a CD recorder and software that allows the user to write a one-off audio CD onto their drive…
