What IPAS to buy? Message #102048

I am starting a project today in which the client wants an orange to roll into the scene and stop. After the orange stops, blue and green lasers begin to strike the orange, smoke appears and when the lasers and smoke clear, the client's logo is now on the orange.…
#Dream System Help Message #98243
I need some help and replies from the experts on what to do here. I a fairly ambitious 3ds3 user doing accident reconstruction and flying logo type work for video. My supervisors are making noises that they would like to get me a Pentium machine. They've heard the word "Pentium"…

My original post asked for an opinion of a DX4-100MHz vs the Pentium for use with 3DS rel. 3. I've read many reviews that would indicate the DX4 is every bit as fast as the Pentium 60MHz and less money. Another question – 3DS hasn't been compiled to take advantage…
#97267- Ideal PC for 3DS Rel.3 Message #97549

Not only did I see 100% Micron computers at the NAB booth, but Micron uses the fact that Autodesk uses their machines in all their shows a part of their (Micron's) advertising. Since the NAB booth showed strictly 3D Studio and Animator Pro, (not CAD software), I'm surprised you're not…
I was at the NAB show and noted that Autodesk now uses Micron computers as their "official PC." I'm a fan of Micron and live in Boise, home town for the company. I wondered what the basic configuration of the machines you use in the show might be? (processor, RAM,…

At Autodesk Univ. in San Francisco last week I saw the people from Diaquest capturing live video, frame by frame, converting the frames to Targa files, and using the Targa file sequence as a material in a 3D studio animation. They were using Video Post and .bat files with Diaquest…

I recently saw a demo of a program by Adobe called "Streamline." This programs converts black and white art into a .dxf file that either 3D studio or Autocad can handle. I'm pretty sure that will work for you. Good Luck!

At Autodesk University in San Francisco last week I saw the Diaquest people doing something with their equipment and software that I would like to do with our Videomedia Alix if possible. They were digitizing live video frames to individual Targa frames and then using the Targas as animated texture…

I'm not familiar with MOVE files… do you need to capture the actual movement or just the single frames that comprise the animation? If you can capture still frames from the screen, try PaintShop Pro (look in the Graphics forums for it.) It's a good Windows capture program. Grab the…

We've been using the "fire" trick you shared in Computer Pictures with great success. Thanks for both that and for all the help from the gang at NW Tech. You people have been, without a doubt, the most knowledgable and helpful vendor we deal with – and being with a…
I'm reading an ad for the new Matrox Illuminator Pro board (back cover of the July/August issue of Computer Pictures.) It says "Record & Playback True Color, full frame rate 3D Studio animations from hard disk in real time." Is this saying what I think? And…if so, does this mean…
V-Lan v.s. SoftVTR Message #48141
Having had about all the "fun" we can handle editing animations a frame at a time to video, we're about to cough up the money for an animation controller. But which kind? Already having a Videomedia VLC-32 video editor, we are familiar with the V-Lan system and already have V-Lan…
I worked just as you said. Unless there are "side-effects" I'm not seeing, this is just the ticket. This works so well Autodesk should send out a informational flyer to all registered users to inform them of this bug and it's work-around. I'm sure there are other frustrated users out…
Some time ago, I followed a thread here which dealt with a lockup problem experienced when one used 3DS Rel. 2 with an ATI VGA Wonder display board. The problem occurs when trying to run a flic from within 3DS or similarly, trying to view a preview (which also creates…

I've seen several people now discussing the apparent "lock up" phenomenon which occurs when one attempts to use 3DS Rel. 2 on a ATI VGA Wonder S-VGA card. I've even noted people saying that those of us you are unfortunate enough to be using this card should be sure were…

We have not been able to get the rendering driver for our Targa board to work properly on our new Compaq 486/50mHz machine. I posed the problem to the Sysop of the Compaq forum, who issued the following reply: ——————————-#: 5418 S8/Customer Service 09-Oct-92 14:28:17 Sb: #5290-486/50 & 3D Studio…

We just hit the jackpot and are installing a Compaq 486/50 with a Targa +64 to GREATLY enhance our performance in 3DS R2. But… we're still rookies with 3ds, not to mention the highly complex matters of configuring our Targa, setting up drivers, etc. etc. Any reccomendations ? Tips, ideas,…

I recently attended the Image World conference in Long Beach where I was exposed to two supposed shareware programs which looked very exciting. I was told I could find them here on C-serve. They are: "Dave's Targa Animator" (supposed to reduce 24-bit color Targa's to 8-bit GIF's and use a…
