#IPAS Books? Message #196140
From: Bruce Waterfield Autodesk Multimedia Forum · IPAS Usage October 19, 1995 2:01 PM
I have recently purchased some !PAS routines, namely Yost #1 and #5 as well as the Schreiber FX package. What I was wondering is if anyone knows of any books which give more deatiled instructions on usage than are provided. (i.e. Tutorials, etc.) I've really had trouble with the books…
#eps plug-in Message #195045
Can someone please tell me how to output an EPS file from the Keyframer? I'm trying to prepare a 2×3 ft. poster and I'm not sure if I should set the display driver for Null, Vibrant, etc. Any help with this matter would be appreciated. Thanks-
Configuring 386 cfg Message #192986
I have recently set up a new system and have been trying to set it up so I can shell out to Animator Pro. However, the 3ds4 Installation guide is very confusing when explaining set up of 386cfg! Does anyone have experience in setting this up? I am running a…
#Poster from 3ds Message #191418
From: Bruce Waterfield Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads September 18, 1995 12:11 PM
I recently had a client ask me about getting a poster made from a 3d still of an animation I made. Has anyone had experience creating a still with high enough resolution that it could be blown up to a 3ft. tall poster? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.…
#189376 #Fields vs. Frames Message #189390
Robert- I checked my 3ds.set and the shadow-bias-absolute was set to off. I also went back and checked the frames I had rendered ( as opposed to the same animation done in fields) and noticed the stutter there also, though less pronounced. Any other ideas? Thanks- Bruce
#189211 #Fields vs. Frames Message #189373
Greg- I have one more question about fields vs. frames. I re-rendered my animation using the field setting (except for the holds on the first and last frames which I rendered as frames) and the motion does appear more fluid than before. The problem is, however, that when the camera…
#189269 Puzzle Pieces Message #189331
Greg- Thanks again for the info-I had been trying to solve the problem backward-that is -trying to figure out how to cut an object into pieces after creating a single object and mapping it. This should make things much easier! Thanks again- Bruce
#189261 Fields vs. Frames Message #189330
For this animation, there are alot of fast moving, tumbling geometric shapes, but little camera movement (a basic dolly move). Is there a specific formula for calculating the amount of motion or scene blur for a project? Bruce
#Puzzle Pieces Message #189241
I recently had a client ask me about doing a jigsaw puzzle animation for an industrial video. It seems like 3ds would be a great way to do this but I'm not sure exactly how. I was wondering if anyone has done a similar effect and would have any suggestions.Basicly…
#189211 Fields vs. Frames Message #189230
Thanks alot for the info- Bruce
#Fields vs. Frames Message #189172
Can anyone clarify for me when to render frames vs. fields. All of my animations are being recorded to Beta SP. Should I always be rendering to fields? Also I was wondering: If I have sequential bitmaps (rendered as frames not fields) and am outputing this to tape via a…
#Hide Key Funkyness Message #188395
Has anyone noticed instances where the Hide keys in the keyframer don't work? I'm trying to keep some text hidden until the last part of an animation. I've added hide keys at the beginning of the keyframe timeline and added another hide key (to toggle hide off) right before the…
#187963 Complicated Mattes Message #188058
Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try.
#Complicated Mattes Message #187874
I'm having difficulty with animated mattes on a project and I wonder if someone could give me some advice. I'm creating an open to a video magazine for a client which involves a lot of flying objects and textures. The central focus of the open is an animated eye which will…
#187443- Windows 95 & 3ds Message #187873
Thanks for all the info. I'll be looking into getting NT soon. Bruce
#Windows 95 & 3ds Message #187227
I know this is probably a question which has been discussed over and over again, but I haven't checked this forum ina while. Why is 3ds going to be switched to Windows NT and not Windows95? I'm mostly concerned because I'm sure Photoshop and Painter and the other 2d graphic…
#Exploding Logos Message #185594
I have been working on a logo for a client that needs to fly towards the camera and explode. I have the Yost Group Explode IPAS as well as the explode volume IPAS from Schreiber. The problem is, however, that this logo is going to be keyed over live video,…

#3ds4 Pentium Bugs Message #176749
Does anyone have any info or experience with running 3ds4 on a Pentium running at 100mz or above? I caught the end of a thread of comments about problems with 100 mz Pentiums and 3ds4. I'm in the process of buying a new computer ( I'm presently running a 90…
#170838 IK Demos Message #172873
Ron- Thanks for the advice. My problem is that when I was designating the chain in IK I was placing the start point too high up the hierarchy.(i.e. picking torso for the start of the hierarchy instead of just the top part of a leg.) It's working fine now.
#Unfolding a Cube Message #172872
I recently have been asked by aclient to create a 3d cube which would "unfold" in animation until it is a flat square with 5 identical squares attached to it. ( like taking a gift box and unfolding to a flat shape.) Any ideas as to what wuld be the…
#IK Demos Message #170804
Has anyone else had problems with the preloaded examples of IK in 3ds4? i.e. Stairs.3ds, Climb.3ds, etc. I' m linking the appropriate hands and feet to their moving dummy objects, but what I end up with is the figure's body remaining stationary and the four limbs "reaching out" towards the…
#170288 Font Catalog Message #170803
Thanks for notifying me about those gif files on the WCT. That's exactly what I was needing.
#Font Catalog Message #170281
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to print out samples of all the 3ds availible fonts. (Esp. off the World Creating Toolkit CD). Many's the time clients will ask what their font options are, and it's kind of embarrasing to have to load up each font individually…
#168345 Disk to VTR Problems Message #169399
I've also tried moving all my image files from my external hard drive to my local hard drive (thus bypassing the SCSI cable and card) . I still get the "unsupported format" error message almost every session. Again, 3ds4 will declare a frame "unsupported", I can immediately exit 3ds4 and…
#168138 Disk to VTR Problems Message #168192
I'm running 3ds4 on a Royal 486/66 with 16 mgs of RAM and a DTC 3×70 scsi card networked with LanTastic to a Dell Pentium 90 with 32 megs of RAM. Both Computers output to a Roarke Systems 4 Gig External Hard drive. I get this problem even when I…
#Disk to VTR Problems Message #168071
I've been having an annoying reaccuring problem when outputting animations lately, and I wondered if anyone else has run into this. When I'm in the Keyframer using the Disk-to- VTR mode, I can usually start files in a que rendering no problem (from an external hard drive). Then suddenly when…
