1Mb Agnus Compatability
Message #115774
John, You may be right. They are charging only $25 for the install, and after mid-August I could afford a day of down time. Paul

Greg, Do you mean just cutting the trace (or two), or replacing other components as well? From the discussion I had with the shop, it sounded like there were other components which would have to be replaced. Is this true? Thanks, Paul
Dan, Thanks for the info. In my t-shirt business, I depend on those two packages A LOT!! Knowing that they work properly with the 4.2 board and a 1Mb Agnus takes some worry off my mind if I have a 4.2 board. The shop said that there were some questionable…
Greg, What do you mean, the 1Mb worked with a 4.2 motherboard but you had to upgrade to a 4.3? Did you find some incompatabilities even though the 4.2 board appeared to work properly? Paul
John, Thanks. I'll take a look at my motherboard. Hopefully I can get away with doing the installation for about $100 instead of going to the shop. Paul

Does anyone know of any incompatabilities between pre-rev 6.x A2000 motherboards with the 1Mb Agnus? Based on the date that I bought my machine, I suspect that it has a 4.x motherboard. The local dealer said that if I had a pre 6.x board, that my board would have to…
Joe, I haven't seen any problems with scan line interference on the 2000, but I'll welcome any increase in the graphics power I can get. Right now, HAM does well enough considering my patterns are ending up on a very corse medium, but photo perfection is better under Dynamic HAM.…
Joe, Congratulations!! I talked to my local rep and it sounds like I may have to have more extensive mods to the motherboard. I believe (based on the date that I bought my machine) that I have an A2000 with a rev 4.x mother board. According to the dealer, I'll…
Wayne, Your comment about "it's the installer's nickel" may be the best insurance policy of all. I'll have to contact the local shop to see how long the 2000 would have to be in the shop. I can't afford a lot of downtime. The machine generates part of my income!…
Don, Yea, I agree. I'm not too worried about static. I've installed memory chips in my DEC Rainbow before, and didn't have any problems. The one that worries me is the cut of the trace. I've never done that before. I have pulled 64 pin CPU chips before, but never…
Harry, I've messed with the guts of my equipment before, but not to the extent that you talk about. For example, I've deterimined that I have to buy a new fan for the power supply. Mine is a bit stickey. But I've never had to cut a trace before. I've…
Joe, Let me know how it goes. I'm very curious. Thanks, Paul

Khalid, I don't have a whole lot of time, but if you don't get any other takers, I'd be willing to take a look at it. I only have Benchmark. As Always, Paul
#Installing 1Mb Agnus

Has anyone tried installing their own 1Mb Agnus chip? I'm just wondering how difficult it is and what paths and pitfalls there are. I'm getting close to doing a memory upgrade on my 2000, and I want the larger chip space. As Always, Paul
DPaint Problem Pt 2
Message #71619
(Part 2) plotter vendors. So I called CalComp. Their techline person asked "What's an Amiga?"!!! I knew before I made the call to Commodore that I'd get stuck in a finger pointing war. I've been in the computer business long enough to see it coming far in advance. But my…
DPaint Probelm Pt 1

Hello Everyone, I have a major problem with DPaint III and I was wondering if anyone else had heard of it and/or knows of an update which has fixed the problem. The problem is that DPaint III uses form feeds to attempt to eject a page of paper from the…
