Sorry I didn't get back here, but my TA totally copped out on me, and not only left me with almost 100 finals (8 pages, 20 questions) to grade by myself but had the gall to inform me that he hadn't finished grading test #2 (given during the first week…

Rick: well, I've gotten a lot more feedback over here (mostly via EMAIL) than I have on BIX, so it's been helpful. I'd spend more time over here, but I have a hard time just keeping up on BIX. So many networks, so little time…. ..bruce..

Keep them cards and letters coming in, folks. This firm seems to be *very* consistent in the way they do (or don't) business. BTW, I called the Postal Inspector's office up in Salt Lake City to check on postal fraud statutes. According to the lady I talked with, TechniSoft is…

Joergen: I'll see what I can do. All things considered, TechniSoft sounds like a, er, less than reputable outfit. (Stronger invective comes to mind, but I hesitate to violate any slander or libel laws.) ..bruce..

Bela has sent me EMAIL with the facts; I hope to get to TechniSoft this Friday and see what I can dig up. ..bruce..

Hi, folks. Been hearing a lot of complaints about the people at TechniSoft over on BIX, and was directed to similar problems over here (so much for group purchases, eh, Bela?). Anyway, since I live about 25 miles from Murray, UT, I thought I'd drop in on the folks there…

Do you *really* want to know what Commodore has done wrong? (1) They had a marvelous third-party developer rep (Caryn Havis) at Los Gatos (i.e., she was an Amigoid. In fact, she's now RJ Mical's wife.) They took that responsibility away from her and turned it over to someone (who…

#21309- Circle Benchmark Message #21469
From: Bruce Webster Forum unknown · Programming June 2, 1986 12:35 AM
There are actually two system calls you can make for timing purposes. One is the Intuition call, CurrentTime(&secs,&micros); the other, shown in the code, is DoIO() with a timerequest structure. The latter is supposed to be more accurate, but I didn't notice much of a difference between the two. bfw

I've been bugging Dale Luck (aka "Duck") to put circles/ellipse routines into the graphics libraries for months. I'm *glad* my work is obsolete, since it's so darn slow…

OK, for those of you who have wondered about the circle paint routine I used for my benchmark, here it is. It's just a modified Bresenham routine which draws line between points reflected across the Y-axis (see Foley & Van Dam, p. 445): MichCircle(qrastport, radius, qcx, qcy, color) struct RastPort *qrastport; int radius, qcx, qcy, color; {…

1) I used Lattice C originially, then switched to a beta copy of Aztec C for the performance and disk benchmarks (I couldn't get the graphics benchmarks to run; kept getting an "out of memory" error that Lattice C didn't produce). 2) The circle benchmark was a hand-optimized version of…

Actually, my lead time is only three months :-). And I can make changes a month later than that, when I get my galleys back. But I appreciate your concerns. As for "Best of BIX", your criticisms indicate a lack of familiarity with what's actually being printed. Most of the…

Commodore had a RIF (reduction in force) equivalent to 50% of their total payroll costs [according to sources inside Commodore], including 20 folks at Commodore/Amiga, which (incredibly) included Bob Pariseau. Surely you folks knew about this…

Considering the public flogging I received in this forum over my ill-considered, outdated concerns over Commodore's financial health, I just thought I'd show up to let you all apologize in person. Or throw more rotten tomatoes, as the mood strikes you (he said, ducking quickly). ..bruce..

I'd like to see 'em, too, though the slant-perspective graphics of the ST version are very nice (and a lot easier). Funny, I *do* know someone who has been working on first-person 3-D graphics on the Amiga for the past few months. Hmm…. ..bfw..

Sacrilege, indeed! You should see the number of computer rags, er, magazines that I get (and that mostly go unread). I'll see if I can get my hands on COMPUTE! ..bfw..

I can elaborate a little. The 68010 can be directly plugged into the 68000 socket on your Amiga. All the Amiga system software is compatible, especially the 1.1 release (which was carefully screened for any 010/020 problems). The 68020 can't just be plugged in. However, Computer System Associates in San…
