I have imported an object in the shape of a tapered drinking cup into Renderize Live. The object was created by a sweep operation and has 36 facets. When I apply a solid-color material and select smoothing for the object, the object renders smoothly, as expected. However, when I try…
I just got VR up and running on my computer and went through the first tutorial in the Renderize Live manual. The final task in the tutorial is to render a view of a chair to disk and to print it to the screen. Being eager to see what kind…
I ran Norton Disk Doctor on disk 3 today, and it partially solved my problems. I managed to get through the entire 5-disk sequence, with warning messages that a couple of files are corrupted. I don't think those files are critical for the time being, and I will fix them…
I just received Visual Reality and tried to install it. I received the following messages during installation of disk 3: Could not read file 'A:\VIMAGE.HL_' Failed: CopyFilesInCopyList How should I proceed?
#3426 Outline drawings Message #3441
George, Thanks for your comments. To answer you question, I am mainly concerned about the appearance of the objects, as I want the outline drawings for illustration purposes. I suppose that, in most cases, the "true edge" issue is not critical. I will let you know if and when I…
George, In an earlier posting, you mentioned that you use DesignCad 3D. Have you had much success loading DXF files from DesignCad 3D into VR for rendering? Is the process reliable? Are there any pitfalls? Thanks, Michael Katz

George, Thanks for your suggestions. I am already using DesignCad and have considered doing just what you suggested — transfer the 3D model to the 2D program and then delete the extra lines. I was hoping there was a more "automatic" way of doing this, but maybe that was wishful…
Do I understand this correctly? Can I buy Simply 3D for $59 and upgrade to VR for $239, for a total cost of $298?
#Outline drawings Message #3301
I am looking for a program to use for patent drawings. I basically need to create isometric or perspective outline drawings, as opposed to rendered images. Wireframe views are not acceptable, because they contain extraneous lines (for example, the lines which divide the segments of an an object that has…
Bernie, Thanks for the information. I will look for the books that you mentioned.
You mention having taken a one-day course on rendering theory. Where did you find such a course? I am an engineer, not an industrial designer, and I imagine such a course would do me a lot of good. Thanks, Michael Katz
Thank you for your reply. I have been on the fence about getting Renderize and your feedback helps.
I don't think the improved rendering program is included in the upcoming release, based on the review I read. I did hear, though, that Corel is buying the DCAD3D code and packaging it in a suite with a rendering program, to be released toward the end of 1995.
Thanks for your input. I called Visual Software's 800 number and they are sending me a demo CD. I will let you know if I decide to order the software and try it out. It seems that DesignCAD 3D for Windows is about to be released. It has already been…
I am looking for a package to produce realistically rendered product designs. Somebody in a CAD forum suggested that Visual Reality may be worth looking into. I am currently using DesignCAD 3D to create and render 3D models. The current, DOS, version has some problems with Postscript output, which has…
