Thanks. I was expecting a drive prompt for hunt, although search would work better the way you described it. Marcus Mullins 🙂
Jon, there is a fairly decent description of ANIM5 format in the back of the SpectraColor Paint manual (not much help if you don't have the manual, however). I would imagine that someone has uploaded sample ANIM5 source code in one of the libraries here. Good luck with your program.…
I have just discovered another problem, and maybe you can help me with this as well. The HUNT and SEARCH functions have no affect when I click on their gadgets. I looked at the configuration for each and they seem to be internal functions. Any clues? Thanks, Marcus Mullins 🙂
Thanks! The only disadvantage to the work-around is that it doesn't spool, but I can live with that… especially considering all the MANY other things Opus does right. I've been a professional prgrammer for 12 years, but I have never seen a program that can do SO MUCH. (Can you…
#Opus problem-HELP!
Message #19849
I've just purchased Directory Opus, and I'm having a problem printing from it. Whenever I select a file and click on the PRINT gadget, I get the normal print requester, but after clicking on THAT print gadget I get a SOFTWARE FAILURE requestor that says "dopus_print" failed, and the error…
Karen, You might want to pick up a copy of theAugust MacUser magazine. They had some VERY interesting things to say about the Toaster in their Mac video product review. One thing of particular note being that if you wanted to do anything broadcast quality, buy an Amiga and Toaster.…
I have mixed emotions about NewTek distancing themselves from the Amiga. On the one hand, companies are founded to create money and provide a lively-hood to those that are associated with it (I don't know of too many people who start companies because "wow, if the world only had a…
#MacUser Loves Toaster?
Message #11166
Has anyone read the article in the August issue of MacUser comparing Mac video post production hardware? The REFERENCE standard was a Toaster and Amiga! Although the general tone of the article was definately biased in favor of the Mac user interface, quite a few times the Toaster received praise…

Japanese Business
Message #28722
Gee, how do you draw a sideways-smiley-face with egg on it? I stand corrected: it is MITI, not MITA (I'm going to have to stop staying up so late at night ;-). As to whether or not market protection is a good idea is something of a moot point (I…
I'm probably going to get some sort of response to this :-), but here goes… I am in favor of hitting the Japanese (and any other country for that matter) with import duties or restrictions IF (BIG if) they are using unfair trade practices when exporting to the United States.…
Hate to reply to my own message, but… I think Dale Luck said it would cost about $6k-$10k for someone to put together their own system similar to his, not that it cost him that much. Just thought I would clarify what I said 🙂 Marcus Mullins 🙂
Trevor, Dale Luck put together his own Amiga portable system several years ago. It didn't run on batteries, used a small color screen, and cost Dale about $6-10k to put together (I know it was at least $6000). Someone asked him if he would custom build them for private (rich…
DigiPaint 3
Message #18594
I just wanted to give you a little feedback on DigiPaint 3. I have been playing around with it lately, doing a little artwork (I am not a professional artist by any stretch of the imagination). At first, I was overwhelmed by the combinatorial possibilities presented by the user interface…
Yup! Marcus 🙂
Tim, I have the Amiga Programmer's Handbook, Vols I and II, and they are really good if you are trying to understand how things are put together on the Amiga. Each volume goes into a lot of depth about HOW things relate to each other, not just the syntax for…
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one doing that. I thought I was just unable to comment properly inside a routine without causing the code to be more difficult to read. Sounds like its a common problem. Marcus
No, no, no! I still wonder about the sanity of "struct gfxbase *gfxbase;" :^) I do use procedure names such as "NextFieldValue" as opposed to "next_field_value" just to save space (so shoot me). However, I would never use "FieldDef" and "FIELDDEF" in the same program, YIKES! I use several different…
Thanks. Marcus :^{
Gee… did I type 'x' in upper case? See what I mean about those typos . Marcus :^{
#An Odd Compliment
Message #103239
Wait a minute… weren't you guys at the end of an isle? Your company name stood out, and I remember thinking "I wonder if that's…nah." Oh, well. If that was your booth, I blew my chance to see HAM-E. ARRGGGG! BTW… I saw a graphics demo at the HamVention that…
What does AEA stand for?
Wow! that was a quick reply. And I though *I* was on here a lot. Marcus :^) BTW-I was at the HamVention. Were you there? Someone told me there was an Amiga-3000 there, but I couldn't find it. *Sigh*.
Don't feel bad. Sometimes I wonder if 3" thick hide isn't a needed attribute in the message threads . Marcus :^)
Hmmm… haven't you ever keyed 100 when you meant 10, or 1000. About 5 years ago I worked on a project that turned into about 5.5 million lines of C code. Believe me, with THAT much typing going on, someone is going to type in incorrect constant (I know, you…
You seem to have rather strong feelings about this.
I have it, but am just now looking at it. I have had problems compiling a few of the examples, but it might be that I don't have it installed properly yet (I JUST got it). BTW, it assumes you have Aztec-C. Marcus
What an idea! I does sound like a monumental task… I'll have to think on this one. Marcus
Mike, I don't check ALL values, etc. I do change boundary range conditions, etc., and I do a LOT of front end design work before I write any code. Unfortunately, I make typos, make a few improper assumptions, etc. when I am designing a program. You see, I work with…
Could you upload it?! Marcus
I agree entirely. Marcus
Ben, Sounds neat. The game I'm writing is of a different sort, but you do have a good point. Perhaps a CRPG could have interaction between characters (generally), and aggression between a character and environment (fighting your way through a bat infested cave, for example). Thanks! Marcus
Ben, I don't use WP, but for a different reason. I am forced to use it at work, and unless you use it all the time, it is a bear to remember how to do even simple things. My problem is that I don't need a sophisticated tech-writer's tools to…
Mike, I JUST received mny 5.0a update. Am I registered, or do I need to send in the card? Marcus
Dean, I understand your point, but you have come from a STRONG assembler background. I started with ASM, but that was 10 years ago. The processors I wrote entire assembler programs for were 8080's, Z80's, etc. I switch to C about 8 years ago, and have only touched assembler on…
Ben, I guess it really depends on what you're developing. If I'm writing an application program, at work I rarely ever use assembler, and never use ILAC. I don't need to. But if I'm writing a real time program (such as a packet switching system) that requires sub-second response, or…
HaHaHaHaHaHaHa… as soon as I stop laughing I'll finish this… HaHaHa! Marcus
Boy, Oh, Boy! You do like to start "discussions". 🙂 Marcus
Ben, I never really thought of PAC-MAN that way until you mentioned it… maybe I should have another look… now where's that PAC-MAN disk… Marcus :^{
Isn't it sort of contradictory to use ignorant/lazy with assembler? I would think an "ignorant" or "lazy" programmer would ignore assembler because it was too difficult or intimidating. Not that good programmers have to use assembly language, just that assembly language programmers don't tend to be ignorant or lazy. ;-)…

Dubuggers? Why?
Message #102142
Mike, What happens when someone finds a wild pointer or whatever in a field released program, and inserting printf statements makes it go away? In 'C', this happens a lot. I know. I've programmed in 'C' professionally for 8 years, and its bitten me a number of times. Not as…

Dubuggers? Why?
Message #102140
Mike, Actually I like function prototyping a lot. But, with an SDB I can really do some important stuff. For example, suppose I write a program that parses a file and produces output based upon the contents of that file. If I use prototyping, I will know: 1. Is my…
Amen! As for the rape remark you refer to, it made me just want to give up in disgust! Its too serious a topic to use in jest :-(. I'm sorry if you thought I was picking on you when I mentioned the parallel difficulties between writing a gender-neutral game…

Steve, I just sent a message to Linda Fitzpatrick that details a way to create this game that WOULD follow a similar theme concerning several viewpoints! I'm glad I'm not the only one to like this idea. Marcus
[ continuation ] up in this thread. Go ahead, whoever, beat on me if you wish. I just don't want women saying to me "all men oppress women", as I've heard from women at work, and I don't want men saying to me "you're not going to give in to…
Mary, This whole topic of discussion bothers me a great deal, as I really had no intention of starting a battle of the sexes. My own personal feeling, for what they are worth are as follows: I don't accept the idea that programming of male oriented games is sexist. Webster…
[ continuation ] not going to BEG you to let me buy/investigate you products. 'nuf said 😉 BTW, I just got my Aztec-C 5.0 upgrade. WOW! Marcus
Mike, I started out using ,the Amiga-C (Lattice) compiler. I finally gave up on doing anything serious with it and went to Aztec-C. I love it. I had already sunk the money into the Amiga-C compiler, and I wanted to stay with it (you know, the baby duckling syndrome), but…

looking for C
Message #100145
Well, I really prefer Aztec C (MANX). I just received the 5.0 release and its really good. I have used Aztec C on a number of different system, and I believe their compiler runs across the largest number of platforms (for portability). They also provide a large number of cross…

What is HAM-E?
Message #100144
How could I have missed hearing about such a device 🙂 How do you exercise control over the device through software? Is that what the contest is about, to develop drivers for the HAM-E device? Thanks! Marcus
