Angel: ViewTek available here on CIS will display GIFs on any Amiga and ifa available, will use AGA for more colors. Besides GIF's, it will also display IFF/ILBM and JPEG images. -Jonathan
OXXI in AmigaVendor forum has a product that will do exactly that. -Jonathan
I use AfterDark under AMAX and it doesn't cause *ANY* problems with shutting down and restarting…. -Jonathan
I agree Ben.. I talked with one of the guys at RCS and they were in heavy negotiations with NewTek for their Toaster systems to include the '040 board. Don't know what became of that, but I hear that RCS has been very stable. -Jonathan
Joe, the current versions of Word for Windows and the MAC will read Word for DOS – along with about 15 other formats… -Jonathan
Denny… Will 4MB SIMMS that I stripped from my MAC IIci work in my soon to be A4000? -Jonathan
exactly….
I really like After Dark. I only wish there was something similar on the Amiga. I would PAY to have it. Any developers listening? I have tried multi-module screen savers like SuperDark and TwilightZone but they just don't compare to AfterDark for the MAC and Windows… I figure some clever…
1.3 is not supported by CBM anyway. I would not care to see needless notation. On the other hand, it would be nice to see that some of the old program have a 1.3 requirement notation. -Jonathan
You must remember that the author of Autopilot has no affiliation with Whap! He is not obligated to offer upgrades. To register or not is up to the individual. Most people find that the money they pay, pays for itself in a short time besides just making CIS easier to…
MS Word 2.0 for Windows and MS Word 5.x for the MAC will read each others formats and retain styling, graphics, etc… -Jonathan
I think it was some 4.x version, don't remember. After Dark has many different modules that look great in black and white. -Jonathan
Lou, When and where is this show in San Jose? I live in Milpitas (a San Jose suburb)… -Jonathan
I think Waldenbooks is on-line here… Is Denny's book available from them? -Jonathan
I have mixed 1×9 and 1×8 SIMMS many times… -Jonathan
Typically, yes, you can use IBM type SIMMS in Amigas that have memory expansion devices that use SIMMS. The Amiga, like the MAC, will ignore the parity chip though. -Jonathan
John: Actually the practice of collective advertising or subleasing ad space is practiced all around the industry, especially in the MAC and PC mags. -Jonathan
You will be able to run the game in the monochrom EGA mode. You will probably want to get a dedicated PC video card. Don't bother with EGA, get a VGA or SVGA video card (they can run EGA)… -Jonathan
Karl, I used to use Pyro that worked fine on my AMAX system. I just recently purchased After Dard and it works flawlessly as well. -Jonathan
I am glad that you have figured out AP. -Jonathan
Photoshop is a program and saves in it's own format among several others. -Jonathan
Lou, exactly what will you be doing in S.F.??? I live in the area and if there is some type of conference, show, etc. that I should know about, I would appreicaiate any info. If it is not business related, well, enjoy yourself on your trip. -Jonathan
1.3 is dead, history, finished, etc… I use 2.1 and plan to move to 3.0 with an AGA based machine soon. I think that *ALL* software should be written to require 2.0+ and when possible, take advantage of AGA. I have an old A1000 that I use for fun but…
You must make an assignement for AP: before running Autopilot. -Jonathan
The MAC is just now with System 7.1 supporting localization with WorldScript.. something the Amiga has supported for some time. BTW, the Amiga has had speach recognition capabilities for a while too. Ever hear of VCLI ??? -Jonathan
The people you mention are business leaders, not computer technicians. I know of some hard core hardware and software engineers that haven't been *exposed* to the Amiga yet and if they were completely exposed might take notice… As of yet, I have not seen real *Proffesional vidoe* done with a…
So! $499 for an '040 board is an excellent deal and if people would look at the latest prices, there wouldn't have been an argument about prices in the first place… -Jonathan
Now that problem is odd… Anyone else with any ideas??/ -Jonathan
Good point… It's all overwith now, so I will think of it no longer… -Jonathan
If you look in the April issue of AW.. On page 70 in the lower left hand corner, you will see the PP&S '040 25MHz accelerator for the A3000 selling for $499. There- enough said. -Jonathan
PageStream runs much faster than any MAC or PC DTP product on a system of equal performance. More and more people are recognizing the Amiga as a great STP tool. -Jonathan
Congrats on the new computer… You ought to get Autopilot. It will make CIS more enjoyable and possibly cheaper for you to use. -Jonathan

#Snapshot inoperative
Message #91277
When you do your snapshot of the window, first double click on the parent window and/or drive so that the one you wish to snapshot is selected. -then snapshot- -Jonathan
Yes, that is exactly what I meant… -Jonathan
Jonathan, You have to open PageStream on a 256 color workbench. It won't open with more than 16 colors on a custom screen. -Jonathan (BTW – Great Name!!!)
Chuck: I want you to know that I appreciate your efforts in remedying the problem I had with Grapevine. I work in the service industry and I can understand your companies policies on most things. I don't want to cause any problems with your company and now that you have…
I agree absolutely.. I don't want any company catering to the Amiga platform to suffer. -Jonathan
Forrest: I have seen the '040 board selling for less than $500 in some of the latest mags. You might want to check again yourself… -Jonathan
Dom: I hope that for the general consumer, you are right… I got jerked around.. Maybe they had a bad sales month.. I just can't feel right about recomending them when I went the through $%#%# with them. I would have been happy with a "sorry sir, we will get…
Thanks. I hope that Grapevine is doing better in the customer service area. Perhaps you being on CIS is a move in the right direction. -Jonathan
I would look into ImageMaster by Black Belt Systems or Art Department Pro by ASDG. -Jonathan
You can always force a modem to wait with commas in your dial string. Yes you can modify the length each comma takes with a change in an S register. At least this is true with most modems. I use the w command when doing call waiting as it forces…
Emulation boards for the Amiga are easy to install. (Installation software and a plug-in board.) As for use… once they are running, they are the full fledged thing. -Jonathan
Excellent!!!! I may want to get an Emplant just to play Spectre with my friends at work! -Jonathan
So how well is it running? Are you actually running Spectre? I have Spectre on my MAC IIci at work and play with people on our network. If the Emplant will run Spectre in color with the Emplant over a network, that means a major step in the right direction!…

#NeXT Quits?
Message #90963
Actually, I installed Word 5.1 for the MAC and it asked me to unlock my #1 install disk. It writes to the install disk and personalizes the installed application. -Jonathan
The price of progress, eh ? I am glad to be of help! -Jonathan
There is no way for the MAC to emulate an Amiga. The Amiga has too many propietary coprocessors, etc.. The MAC is easy to emulate.. The MAC ROM, CPU, and some software code…. The Emplant is a new emulator that was met with some doubt when first introduced, but appears…
Well, I will tell you what happened. I called Grapevine one day to get a FFV and was quoted a price of $249 something… I placed my order and paid extra to have it shipped next day air. When I received it, my invoice was for more than the quoted…
It's a souped up 68000 clocked at 28MHz.. Probably a good add on for some programs, it would probably work well to accelerate programs that don't like faster processors (IE '020 + ) -Jonathan
