Mark, You're being billed at least $10/hr for using the 800 number. Better you should find a local node to call into CIS. You can check the latest node list for freebies by using GO PHONES.
For old eyes and a tired brain, it's hard to read the screen at 9600 baud.
Oops….that was supposed to be 57,600 baud. It'll equate to about 5500 characters per second (actually 5760 on clean lines at top speed).
Do you have any idea just how many nodes there are on the CIS network just here in the states ??? And it's a little more than just plugging in another modem. Upgrading the existing nodes is only one of the things they are doing. In addition to this, they…
Mike, There are already ISDN lines here in the states and they're running at 56,600 baud. The latest listings show many of them.
Actually CIS is doing exactly that, but at the lower rates. ALL nodes in the US are to be at least 28,800 baud within a year (actually less than that now). They are adding new nodes not only in the States, but around the world (and the new one's are…
Nah Bill, What's causing the slows is the tremendous increase in system usage since the prices have dropped. Seems like everyone is doing all them things that the monthly bill used to make them hesitate to do…….
A page fault ???? A PAGE FAULT ??? You're getting page faults ??? Did you do something to upset the teacher ??? Actually they're nothing to worry about, other than the fact that they're happening. A page fault occurs when the program tries to access something in memory, and it…
Philip, You left three of these messages on the board last night. Since two were essentially duplicates of this one, I've removed those.
It isn't a new post but a forward of your original posting. You can tell by the [F] in the To: line. OTOH…I am beginning to wonder about you. Now you're talking to yourself and days apart between messages too……..
Kevin, He's been using it for all but the last message. Don't know why that one ain't threaded correctly.
Philippe, You're still trying to compare apples and oranges. There's a big difference between a basic computer that can be configured to do most anything, and a commercial game machine. On that same stroke, it's still possible to purchase brand new 386 machines for the $500 figure that you're using…
Ohhh…ohhhhh…. I disremember all that…………………I think !!!!
Most of us involved in this thread are capitalists of one sort or another, and though my main use of software is CAD rather than computer animation, I've seen similar occurances with the CAD software. Autodesk purchased a company that made modeling software for the mechanical engineering field. The software…
There isn't anything wrong with my attitude and/or arrogance. If anything there is no arrogance as I've taken the time to explain each and every point I took or made. I didn't just throw out *wild* statements without any backup. Granted I was talking in the hypothetical, but I'm not…
Why thank you Alec. Nice to see that some one actually reads the drivel that I occasionally post…………
Hey John, How ya'all doin' ??? Though I ain't talked to you in awhile, I've been here, just ain't been so vocal. Keeping the velvet glove on the mailed fist so to speak….. 'Sides, Anne has a good handle on the forum, and she be the official WIZ so it…
Terry, I didn't see anything about IBM in the original message. Where did you get this impression ??? From the thread title ??? Philippe was initially gripping about the 3DO interactive learning machine, and then he got on to the pentium chips. I don't really know anything about the 3DO…
Phillippe, I never thought I would wind up supporting something someone considered price gouging, but……………… I don't know what you do for a living, but from the tone of your message, you do not supply a service or a product. I'm an architect by training, inclination and practice. By your…
John, Check over on CADDVEN and LEAP. There are several I-DEAS's users over there.
Lee, Which one did you try ??? Davis Augustine posted both UUNT.ZIP (for NT) and UUCODE.ZIP (for DOS), and both files are recent (like the 19th of January). There is also a shareware encoder/decoder, graphics coder/decoder and archiver/dearc called ZRFW.ZIP (short of ZR FileWorks) that is as recent as 21st…
Lee, Both UUencode and UUdecode are available on the Autodesk AutoCAD forum in Library 10 [Utilities].
Nah!! Troy, I got the same problem. My fingers just don't listen to my brain.
Heeheeheehee… Welllll…..actually, I would like to take credit for great insight here Brian. But as I stated in the message, I DO see that error message a LOT. And I've learned what it means….. As Forest usta' say "Simple is as simple does."
Oh !!!! Gayle…… ……..NO !!! I'm gonna resist……………..I can do it…….errrr…

Message #161712
Troy, The error messages you are getting are from PKUNZIP and they essentially are telling you that they can't find the file of the name you typed into the computer. Run the DIR command, and make sure that what you're typing for the file name actually is the file name.…
No release date has been announced.
Heeheeheehee… Do you want that book matched ?????
Sheesh… I can't talk you into Robert Redford ????…..OK!!!!OK!!!! we'll set it to just Wade Thurman…….
(god i hate the way it does my name… wade . thurman) Well…change it Wade, or we can change it for you. Wadda' ya' want ???? Robert Redford ???……………
Alex, SC2K has moved to the Autodesk Showcase forum. GO ASHOWCASE to get there.
Bryan, If the file actually is an LZH file, you will need LHA or LHArc to unarchive it. LHA is available on the IBM PRO forum and it's a freebee.
Probably because you're running an outdated version of your comm program Ken. The forum software was changed half a year ago to increase the forum sections from 18 to 24. Most of the CIS specific comm programs had the section number hard coded in them, so this necessitated a change…
Paul, We are going to take this conversation over to the sysop section on the showcase forum. You got access there cause I gave it to you, and I'm the one that will be doing the teaching……. Delete your existing showcase forum favorite place stuff, and rejoin that forum. See…
Sanford, The Autodesk ShowCase forum is up and running. Libraries are all set to receive uploads and have. And I would imagine that we'll be closing this particular message section sometime next week, or at least by the end of the month. What we really need is a list of…
Jack, The first thing you have to do is put your full name into the membership record. Then send a *SYSOP message to the sysop (*SYSOP is private to the primary sysop of the forum) and include your name, UID, dealership name, dealership number and Autodesk contact person. The information…
Mike, ASHOWCA or the Autodesk ShowCase forum opened Friday just one day behind the latest schedule. CIS has been jammed with new forums and getting them open. Section 8 and Library 22 have been set aside for StudioCity 2000. So I suggest that all discussions be transfered over to there,…
Sheesh…Sanford, You're working online ???? Get one of the offline readers, most of the upgraded CIM's will work offline. No wonder your account was killing you.
A spell checker ???? Sheesh….I dono??? I use a dictionary myself.
Sanford, The flag was requested from Jan 6 to Feb 6 as the new forum was to be opened by the 1st of February. When the new forum opens, we will be requesting flags for the control group of StudioCity at that time or shortly after.
We'll get it Ed.
Dave, It's marked and will be gone tonight.
Aha….Gus, TNT has gone to DPMI memory ??? Does it still support VCPI too ???

Douglas, I've just removed half a dozen messages posted by you with the same subject, date and text. It is not necessary to post the same message over and over, and it creates more ill will than information when forum members have to read the same thing over and over…

#WinNT 3.5
Message #151798
DPMI and NT3.5 work together now. DPMI (DOS Protected Mode Interface) is the MicroSoft extended memory manager and NT knows all about it. The problems with 3DS is that it uses the Phar Lap DOS Extender and that is VCPI (Virtual Control Programming Interface).

David, You can't delete it immediately or permanently, but you can mark it for deletion since it's your file. Just BRO(wse) on the file and at the File Disposition ! prompt, type in DEL (or ERA…I can never remember which one and normally have to do both). This will mark…
Not me…. He's doing it all himself, won't even let me in yet…….
Unfortunately that's the way it is Dave. Even though modem communications are quite frequent, they ain't assured. The biggest problem is probably the copper line to your house. I got one that has a connection that tends to corrode (about 3 panels down the line). Every time the line starts…
YEP!!! It's true Scott. CIS don't bill you for the upload time, but it starts again as soon as you've approved the upload and index file entry.
Heeheeheehee… Let's hope not Scott. I do have some advice for your initial large image upload………..that's wait. We're on the raqggedy edge of library space in the forum, and have started a new one to take the sample and display images. The new forum will be called the Autodesk ShowCase…
