I went through the same sequence of thoughts. The difference here is that it
doesn't matter the order. White and Blue is the same as Blue and White. Once
White and Blue is discarded as a pair, the array gets reduced by one and the
process loops. Select the first color and you have 199 combinations. This first
color has been "combined" with all other colors (or materials for that matter).
Move over to the second and you have now 198 combinations (you can't combine
with the first as it has already been done). From here on is just a simple
regression (199+198+197+196…).
I could, just well be way off here. The last time I did anything related to
combinatory analysis was in High School 15 years ago… <g>
