NH>Maybe we can figure something out after you try this. NH>Regards, and good luck, Thanks, Norman. I'm glad your A3K boots. As you might imagine, I am somewhat gunshy at this point. Here is one msg I got: *************************** AFINKEL [andy] Dick: 1) make sure reselection is off on all drives 2) 3.1 obeys the battmem bit indicating that a hard drive supports sync transfers. Download one of the battmem utilities (unless there's one in the 3.1 distribution) and make sure that bit is OFF. I bet the problem is the battmem sync bit. andy ****************************** One thing I need to ask: Do you have a prototype SCSI chip in your machine? That is the same size chip as the 3.1 ROM chips just to the inside of the ROM tower. Mine is a prototype and there has been some activity on FidoNet about getting new chips from Western Digital. The designator on the new chip is: WD33C93A-PL 00-08 {the old one (proto) ended in 04 and is marked 'PROTO' [appropo, eh?]} Anyway, I shall try again when I get the balls to have a go. Later. Dick
