Mat,
Each time someone writes a new 3d package they have to come up with a
totally new interface to avoid outright copying of another package. It seems to
me that there are only so many ways to do it and most of the good ways have
been used up. However I am fed up with 3D packages that claim how "usable" they
are when I can't get past the interface.
I am also an Alias user. And I can see a "workstation" approach to
truespace, however it was not implemented as well as Alias. If it had less
tools but still retained the functionality of Alias it would be awesome. And
probably look something like 3DS MAX. The raytracing in truespace is useless
when you can't get your scene the way you want it.
The first high end 3d software I used was cubicomp's pc11 and picturemaker
or something like that. Truespace totally blows away cubicomp, so maybe it has
a place among new users who need more limitations.
Nah, start em on 3ds.
