One of our programmers who did his PhD dissertation on blowing things up has some cool code for this effect. I know of no commercial software that does this. My suggestion would be to have a 2 sheets of glass. One whole and one made of broken pieces that you had created manually in the shaper/lofter. Maybe photograph a smashed sheet of glass as a guide for fracture lines in the shaper. When the whole glass is hit, substitute the fractured sheet and use dynamics (key factory) or manually keyframe the pieces flying/falling. Sounds like a fun project – good luck.
