/ \ @ @ ^ * I'm having trouble with my new NEC74. It doesn't read disks right. Is there anybody who knows about these? Is there a manufacturer's support forum? Do I have any options besides sending it back? Thanks Ellen

Ellen, you don't have to send it back. In fact even if you do exchange it there is no guarentee that the new one will work better. What controller card are you using? Was this part of a kit? Where did you buy it and what did they call it? It is far more likely that you installed it incorrectly than the drive having a problem. What version of DOS are you using? Are you using a high memory manager? Which one? What other cards are in your system? As your system boots a series of driver names will appear. You can press the pause button to stop the display and the space bar to resume. Write down the names and version numbers of the drivers that are displayed. I would also be a good idea to include a copy of your CONFIG.SYS file in the message you post.

Bruce, Thanks for your reply. Everything was installed properly. There may be some problems with the Mediavison PAS 16 card and the NEC 74 cdrom. I have found another person with the same setup who had the same problem. Mine eventually worked out, but even that process was weird. I didn't buy this as a kit. I bought the sound card 6 months ago, and got the cdrom drive last week. The connector cables arrived somewhere in the middle. Manufacturers make minor hardware changes, which could possibly cause variations in performance with different age hardware. It's all a vast grey area. Thanks for your input. Ellen
