#Wire Mat=Broken Lines
4 messages in this thread
Hi all,
Need some help here with using wire materials.
The mesh object is a 2D shape that morphs. It has been assigned a black,
illuminated, wire material. Unfortunately, the rendered image shows broken
lines at the vertice points. (I'm assuming the broken lines are the result of
the faces "blocking" the wireframe at those places?) Obviously, I'm trying to
get that clean, solid-line look. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Laurie
They're not broken lines… the wireframe lines, when very thick, scale down as
they approach the vertices. It's just part of the way wireframe rendering
works, unfortunately. Note that absolutely no other renderer on the planet
renders texture-mapped wireframes except 3DS. It's amazing we got it to work
as well as we did, going through the a-buffer to get antialiased as well as
they do.

I reported this problem a mounth a go to Yost Group but they havn't got back to
me. My own theory is that the edges that arn't visible takes away part's of the
visible ones. That is if there is an invisible edge that is very close to
parallel with a visible one, the one that should show is almoust entirely gone!
If it's soo then this is a BUG!

Not a bug, Martin. It's just the way wireframe rendering works. The invisible
edges are subtracted from the visible ones, leaving the thinning effect at
those vertices. If you want to eliminate the effect, just make all your edges
visible (with Modify/Edge/AutoEdge and a low edge angle) or reduce your
wireframe thickness.
