Dave: I have been getting a lot of requests to do slomo from beta SP and the PAR is doing a fabulous job of it but I have a request for a future release of the PAR.exe. You need to add a PLAY BACKWARDS to the controls. I have been manually sliding the button with the mouse and this is alright for now but the button would be great. It should also be speed controlled for backwards slomo as well. BTW, FYI : I discovered I can achieve live video recording at a QF of 21-22 using the Y/C component input to the TBC IV. With composite 3/4 Umatic I was only able to achieve QF 16-17 at best. Also I just sold an animation that was done using the PAR to the City of Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce. It's their "Go for the Gold" theme logo. The PAR and the UVW-1800 combo is being used for this job. When I complete part 2 of this project you will be welcome to it for your demo of the PAR.

>You need to add a PLAY BACKWARDS to the controls. Find a harddrive that spins backwards :} If holding down the reverse button works that is a miricle!. We are adding a rev mode that would dupe in reverse while reversing fields in live captured video. This feature should be available in version 1.5. I will try to get a date. Dave DPS

Just dragging the slider worked for the recent job I did. John Ellis sent me a file to try that is supposed to renumber the tga's. This will work for animation at the dos level and might be the best solution for now. Here's another wierd application I found for the PAR. Yesterday a client gave me a critical video that had flash photography glare scattered throughout. I grabbed the video and photoretouched those frames and sent them back out, using betacam SP the digital process loss wasn't even noticeable. You guys have a great product! I just sold two more for the local dealer here. You should make me a dealer!

Hey! give me a break, will ya? What do you run your PAR file output gamma at? (ie. render output file in 3DS) I've zeroed in on a 1.5 setting here.

>> I've zeroed in on a 1.5 setting. << Very interesting, I've been using 1.8 for almost everything now for quite awhile including output to the PAR. I'm very comfortable with this setting and adjust the lighting accordingly. I have been able to have light and dark scenes without any problems. I have noticed however that a rendered frame with Video color check and without it does make a difference in terms of luminocity ie: black is lighter and greyer. I didn't notice this with the Targa originally but am now aware of it but less so. I suspect this is because of the broader bandwidth of the PAR's framebuffer. What do you think? -JE

I did notice this with the targa+ ref. the video color check. I do some output for a post house that I usually turn on super black because they like to use the taped animations with a luma keyer. I do know that when trying to use super black that the video check should be off. I don't have a lot of experience playing around but I did feel that 1.8 for the par was not giving me enough solid black so I arbitrarily set it for 1.5 and was happy with that. For the Targa+ I am using 1.8 99% of the time. I'm excited! Thursday, I have my debut of my animation for the City of Jacksonville. I understand it will be shown on a 20 ft. screen. Even got my name printed in the program brochure! Now that I'm famous I can write home to mom! <G>

Congratulations on your animation debut, Don. I hope it turns out splendid. Now that you're famous, I'll have to get your autograph in Orlando this summer<g>. -Alan

It turned out great. I have three things to thank for making this project possible. 1. 3DSr3 and network rendering which allowed me to meet deadlines. 2. DPS-PAR which allowed for faster test renderings and motion tests as well as the high quality of output for the big screen. 3. UVW-1800 betacam SP which put this format within reach $ to meet the entry requirements for the bid. Since my name was printed in the program and there were many "heavy hitters" present at this meeting, I'm curious as to what this exposure will do for my business. I just don't have any experience with the results of doing things like this. In the past all my work has been seen only by the industrial community.

Great to hear it went so well, Don, and don't forget reason #4: You obviously have the ability to grasp a project, plan it, and execute in a timely fashion, delivering *what* the customer wants for the amount of money he agreed to spend. This part of the business demands superior visulization (often to visualize *for* the customer, too) and anticipation of the true requirements of the project. These are issues often overlooked when folks are talking about 3D animation, and are gonna be the subject of our next User Group meeting. We hope to have some people come in and speak (GregP has agreed to come by) from out-of-town about their own insights on these issues. Wanna fly over next month and do a little speech?<g> I wish we had some money, I'd offer to buy a plane ticket for you… Congratulations again, and I hope this leads to many more jobs for you. I swear, I can just *feel* this industry growing like a living thing! -Alan

I find that 1.8 is plenty black so maybe its your monitor. Mine has SMPTE Type C phospors and 720 lines or resolution. Keying is another story. I use a matte for the key signal. Blacks are legal so it doesn't seem to be a problem. I use the PAR setup bars for my monitor and they seem to be fine on the scope. I think it may be somewhat subjective as 2.2 is supposed to be NTSC and my pictures would be blown out at that value. <g> Yeah, I don't think too many people could see artifacts on a 20 ft screen. They're not know for their high resolution. <g> Its fun to see your work on a large screen. I've done several animations for a local company that travels to all the nice spots like Bermuda and Hiawaii. Two of their clients are Pitney Bowes and American Airlines for whom I've done animations. They do those big extravangazas, known as Vanity Pieces for their "Sales Leadership Clubs". They are really something. Lots of live music, hand held cameras and big projection screens. Basically a Pep rally for their top sales people, with the intent of showing everybody a good time, making everybody a star and party party party. <g> -JE

Wait a Min. Don! Think about this "Sir Don" thing. THE DARK AGES The Land was Divided and without a King: Out of those lost centuries rose a Legend: Of the Sorcerer, Yost: Of the coming of a King: Of the Sword of Power: "Fade from Black to highly reflective letters, [ LANDIS ] rotating in to view." "Sounds of Battle, shouting over battle sound, "The Sword, the Sword, Gary, you promised me the Sword." Gary replies, "And you shall have it!" Scene Fades in using the New VAPOR.IPAS Routine. Welllll…..You Get the Picture. Have a nice day (;-) Murph'
