#HD reformat

I have a GVP series 1 controller. Is it compatable with the 2.1 OS? I
have AutoPilot and I upgraded from 1.3 to 2.1 and never reformated
the hard drive to the new FFS. I'm a lurker and never knew I had a
problem. When I try to use HDTOOLBOX I'm getting "no driver found"
and all of the gadget buttons are shaded. Any help would be
aprreciated
HDTOOLBOX is only for the CBM controller. You must get the software from
GVP (Faaastprep)

I'll give them a call on Monday. I hope they got something for the Series 1
considering that they discontinued it a while ago.

You need to insert some info in the icon's tooltypes.
Add this to the tooltypes in the information requester on the HDTOOLBOX
icon.
Click once on the icon, select Information… from the ICONS menu of the
Workbench. Then click on the ADD gadget and type in the following exactly
as it appears below:
SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=gvpscsi.device

I'll give a try. I called GVP today and they didn't think I could do it. They
suggested upgrading to a SERIES 2 controller for about $90
Thats a great price but I have 2 meg of RAM chips on the present controller
which I would have to toss. If your suggestion doesn't work do you know if I
bought one of the other brands of controller (read cheaper) and kept the series
1 card in there just for the RAM and hooked up the hard drive to the new
controller?

If you set the jumper on the Series I so it WON'T AUTOBOOT, sure you can
use it as just a RAM card. That is what I'd do, if I added a replacement
controller sans memory.
I had a Series I for a long time, it worked OK but did give me some
problems with termination, but so does the Series II I have now. I don't
think it is an isolated problem with the GVP cards, most controllers are
termination finicky, 'cept for my old KRONOS card.
I think the tooltype info I gave you should work with HDToolbox. I tried
it again just to make sure and it does work. You can also download the
software FastPrep from the GVP BBS.

I tried your suggestion and unfortunately it didn't work. I've never horsed
around with the controller before. I bought the 2000 about 2 years ago and I
know I'm at least the 3rd owner of it. Am I looking for a file called
"gvpscsi.device"? I looked for a file with that name and cannot find one. I
have the original GVP install disk and a file with that name is not there. I'll
try the GVP BBS. When I installed 2.x, I used Commodores start up sequence and
dumped the one I had been using. I think there was something about the GVP in
the start-up when I purchased the machine.
My problem I having isn't life and death so I going to take its resolution real
slow. Thanks for the help.

gvpscsi.device should be in the DEVS: directory.

I see that Chris has probably looked directly on the source disk but you
might also want to look in the expansion drawer.

I'll take a look. I tend to remove things from the hard drive if they don't
affect the machine. I its not there I can get a copy without any problems.

Your right, I completely forgot about the expansion drawer! Of course, the
only thing I have in there is gvpscsi.device!
How silly can I be to forget about that?
