#Aaplayhi Drivers?

I've found and downloaded AAPLAYHI and have installed it on my computer. However, when I run the program, it comes up in 320×200 mode. I've tried calling Aaplayhi with the "-d vesa xx" command line using various modes but Aaplayhi indicates that it can't use these modes. I have both the Diamond SpeedStar 24 and the Diamond SpeedStar 24X on two different 486/50s. I've checked to see that vesa.drv does indeed exist in the resource directory. Is there a different driver I should be using with Aaplayhi? Have I forgotten something? Have I done something stupid? I can't get 3D Studio 2.01 to display Flics at 640×480 with my Diamond SpeedStar 24X, (I'm using Vibrant Graphics drivers), so I'd really like to be able to configure Aaplayhi correctly and then add it to my program menu in 3D Studio. Any help is, as always, greatly appreciated! Thanks, Danny…

Danny – The problem your running into is due to the built in FLC player in 3DS. Currently, there is nothing that can help you with the 24x. 3DS v3 will solve this problem, but this does not solve your problem now. We are working on a way for the driver to take over the FLC playing, but we do not have any release data on when it will(or may) be available. Jack Bayt – Vibrant

Thanks Jack, Please keep us posted with regard to this driver. I think quite a few people are using the Diamond SpeedStar 24x and I'm sure all these people would love to be able to view hires flics inside 3D Studio. <g> Thanks again, Danny…

Are you loading the VESA driver suplied with the 24X? Once the VESA driver is loaded and resident in memory, go into AAPLAYHI and set the screen size to one of the VESA modes (640×480, 800×600 and 1024×768). Once you do that, the configuration gets saved and you don't have to do it again.

Gus, The SS24x is _supposed_ to be VESA compatible out-of-the-box. Like Danny, I've been unable to get my 24x to behave correctly when playing a higher-rez flic. Also, the CD-ROM utility, VGASHOW [I think] doesn't correctly display thumbnail versions of maps, etc. What happens is that it just puts them all in the top 25% of the screen, by repeatedly overwriting that area. It's a real mess. BTW…do you actually have an SS24x? If so, which ROM/driver version is it, and what VESA driver are you using? I know we've all been through the SS24X driver problems, ad nauseum, over the last 4-6 months. Still…there doesn't seem to be a satisfactory resolution to some of them. Eli.

Thanks for the suggestion Gus! I'm now loading the TSR first and then running AAPLAYHI. Works great. I didn't realize that I had to run the Vesa TSR. I thought that the Vesa support was built in at a hardware level. Oh, well… Regards, Danny…

Danny, What's the file name of the TSR you're running? I've got a SS24x and am having similar troubles… Thanks. Eli.

Sorry Eli, I think there's been a little confusion about the vesa drivers for the 24X. When I use my Diamond SpeedStar 24 I have to load the vesa driver using the VMODE VESA command. However, I don't have to do anything in order for the Diamond SpeedStar 24X to work correctly. AAPLAYHI recognizes the fact the the 24X supports VESA internally and makes these options available from the start. Sorry about the mixup. <g> TTYL, Danny…
