I am a 12 year old user of 3d Studio. I was browsing through the mesh files, looking for material pretaining to Star Trek. I have not found much, but found that you did most of the Star Trek material. I am seeking the following meshes, and would like to know if you have made them, or know where I can obtain them: A detailed Deep Space Nine station The U.S.S. Voyager A Nebular class Starship A Starfleet Runabout The Defiant The Enterprise C (Prefferably just any ambassador class ship) *MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!* A GOOD Galaxy Class Starship A Type 7 shuttlecraft And that's about it. Get back to me ASAP. –TREKMASTER

Trekmaster Better yet, why not create your own models? The modeling tools in 3DS are amazing once you get the basics down and there are folks on the forum who can help with problems. Have you done all the tutorials, that's a good place to start? Then ask relatives for some of the great books available for your birthday, etc. Good luck TedB -Ted Boardman !^NavFont01F0006MGHHH_CC13

Hmm … I have the book. I will ATTEMPT creating my own models, and I will make use of the tutorial. Though I do not consider myself lazy, nor uncreative, I find it much more convinient finding pre-made 3d Studio messages, for I, at the tender age of 12, and not owning 3d Studio for much more than two weeks (Though I've been able to create nice animations!) have not grasped the fundamentals of modeling.

<<at the tender age of 12, and not owning 3d Studio for much more than two weeks (Though I've been able to create nice animations!) have not grasped the fundamentals of modeling. Then youve got time to get good at modeling, the bottleneck in the process. Let me suggest that the best work is created by people who grasp the widest variety of processes from 2d expertice for mapping, the study of pacing and movement in film to the importance of sound to name a few. I am a little bit into the Inside 3d Studio 4 book. I seem to have learned quite a bit since I posted that message, though it was only a short while ago. Thank you for the advice, though.

Gabriel, << I am a little bit into the Inside 3d Studio 4 book. I seem to have learned quite a bit since I posted that message >> Don't forget to do all of the tutorials that came with 3DS. Mark

It's exactly because your 12 that I mention getting into the modeler. You are in a perfect position to take the time to learn modeling/animation from the ground up. There will be lots of career opportunities if you decide to continue with it and have a good understanding of all aspects. Plus it's fun. Check out the Replace Mesh option in the 3DEditor, it allows you to create animations with basic models to start, then substitute the model with a more complex model of the same name later. What version of 3DS do you have and most of all what's your name? Sorry to sound like your guidence teacher<G> TedB -Ted Boardman !^NavFont01F0007MGHHHF4832F

Yes, I've done the replace mesh option MANY times. It saves alot of time. It's agravating working in 3d Studio under a DX/25mhz. I do see this as a career oportunity, even at such a young age, but there are several other talants I have (not to brag) like artistic ability, acting, writing, cinematography, and so forth. Welp, better keep hittin' the ol' 3ds book …

Gabriel At 12, there is no good reason to choose a career path right now, is there? It sounds as if you'll have enough of a background to go in any direction. Best of luck and thanks for posting the name<g>. TedB -Ted Boardman !^NavFont01F0007MGHHGAC38F9

Ahh … yes, it sounds that way. Anyways, I'll be off looking for my ST meshes. Also, for all interested, I'll be uploading an animation I did that simulates the opening shot of the original ST pilot, "The Cage" (Where the camera dollies in, pans accross the hull, and enters the bridge) complete with moving starfield background, corresponding with the movements of the camera (Unlike the actual shot! Hehehhe… )
