Import text?

Is there any way possible to directly import and insert ASCII text into an existing FC2R2 document? I need to be able to do this to import text that is generated in list format from Superbase. If it is possible through AREXX, could you guide me through the process with a simple example. Thank you, Fred

Fred, The simplest method is to open another, separate document and bring in the ASCII file there. Then, do an Edit->Select All (menu option). Next, do an Edit->Copy. Click on the window that has your 'non-ASCII' text in it and do an Edit->Paste. Voila! All the commands in the ARexx section of the manual are first sorted by menus, so it should be easy to figure out which commands do what. Snoop through the ARexx chapter. If you still don't understand things, let me know. Ric Fischer – SoftWood Tech Support Phoenix, Arizona, USA – (602) 431-9151

I originally tried this method, but it does not work properly for my purposes as it also copies the second documents' fonts, rulers, etc. Those items are what I'm trying to use from the original document, and if I have to reset them for every import operation, then I'll have to use Pagestream for what should be a simple word processing task. Thanks, Fred

Fred, There is a way, but it would require some ARexx programming. Your ARexx program should be able to read an ASCII file and then 'Type' (see ARexx chapter of Final Copy II's manual) it straight into your own document. I'd offer to send you a version of this, but I haven't received one, yet. Maybe I can work on it at work today. We'll see.
