The one thing you definetely need to put a Harddrive on an A1000 is a thing called a Host/Adapter which is a box that plugs onto the bus on the right side of the Amiga and converts the Amiga Bus to a SCSI bus. I use a C.Ltd Host/Adapter, but they've gone out of buisness so I would definitely recommend a currently liquid vendor. There is a catalog that has been recently published called "The Amiga Reference, AC's GUIDE To The Commodore AMIGA". There is a large section under DRIVES that list products that will hook up ST-506 and SCSI drives to your A1000. I suggest you get this catalog as it has product descriptions *and* vendor addresses to which you can direct questions and orders. Mike McCormick

I think the Dataflyer for the 1000 is still available. If not, any 500 drive installed backwards will work just fine. Just remember to put something under the drive to support it. Richard -> via the Amiga 1000 AutoPilot

Paul, The process is actually quite simple. The HD adapters for an A500 work just fine..except that the back faces the front and you need to put an inch or so of blocking under the unit because the expansion slot is much higher on the 1000 than the 500. If you want the hd to be self booting you will need to add a Kickstart ROM of 2.0. Good luck. Bill

Paul, You can hook up a drive/host-adapter combination that's designed for the A500 to an A1000. The only "problem" is that it'll end up facing backwards. The side slot on the A500 and the side slot on the A1000 are on opposite sides of the computer…(and at a slightly different height)..so add-ons must be reversed end-for-end to work one to the other. Check with a local dealer (if you have one near you)…they may have some used A1000 specific add-ons available…or might be able to assist you getting an A500 add-on to work with your A1000. Don
