#render to file

OK So I have turned off last-image-save parameter. Now when I do a render to GIF file at 4096×4096 resolution everything seems to work fine, for the first hour, but no file is created (I didn't see what happened, there was no error me) and I am returned to the 3d Editor. Does the Phar Lap swap file setting need to increase? Will it use all available space automatically? Should I fill my motherboard with ram (64Mb max 16 now)? Incidentally, I thought that GIF files didn't support 24 Bit color and were always compressed (if you choose GIF from 3dstudio menu you can't click compressed off). I appreciate any help on this subject. Jon

Jon, The GIF file setting is only for the resulting output (in 256 colors), although 3D Studio uses 24-bit color internally (thus the save-last-image). There should be a GIF file on disk, if you selected Render to Disk, and are using the Null driver setting (since you are rendering an image of higher resolution than your display). It should have the name you assigned to it, when you began the render. As to how much RAM you need, check 3D Studio's status after the render, and see if you're paging to disk, how much memory was available, and how much was used.
