3DS abort!

I've been using 3DS for over two years now. It still crashes after I view or render 15+ images. If I do a lot of editing in the Keyframer, it dies an unhappy death. I have a 486DX-50 EISA w/ 32MB RAM. What gives? If it's a memory swap problem, then please offer a work around – other than bailing out. Will send cash, check or money order to the winner of the best solution (NOT)! (D=>* Alan – Hords of Fun!

I had a problem like this last year, and it turned out to be the hard disk controller card (el cheapo at $30). As soon as I replaced it with a more mainstream one all problems ceased. I have no idea if this is the problem with yours, but it's pretty cheap to replace the controller for a (reliable) name brand so it may be worth a try. Michele

No, I've had two different controllers, ESDI and SCSI. It still does it. I guess I've lost my patience after all these months. It's one of those pety things that finally catches up with you. Thx 🙂 Alan – Hords of Fun!

I'm not with Autodesk, but… Post for us your CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT, 3DS.SET, what ever command you use to invoke 3DS, as well as a verbal description of your setup, including video card, drives, RAM, what's on your I/O ports, etc. THEN maybe someone can figure out what's going on… David Taffet

Sounds as though there may be some sort of memory conflict, Alan. Are you using QEMM? If not try it! I have seen it clear up similar problems with 50Mhz EISA's in the past… -Alan Iglesias

Have it. All other apps work fine, including Windows. 🙂 Alan – HOF!

Alan, make a dos bootable floppy and boot up with it. Try 3ds now, if it crashes then it's your hardware or it's CMOS settings. You'll have to be very systematic to pin it down. I did this with a clients ISA 486/50 and it was only truly happy after we went from 48mb to 64mb RAM. Way weird!

Alan: Just because all other apps work fine when you're using QEMM that doesn't mean that 3DS will… if you said that all other apps that you have that use PharLap Dos Extender work fine, then you might have told us something that would let us provide a clue. The only way we can help is that you follow a few simple steps that provide us with the information that we need… since we aren't there to see your problem in person… First, eliminate everything from your config.sys file except files=40 (and disk doubler, if you're using DOS 6.0), make sure you're using 3DS in standard VGA mode (no drivers) and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then you have QEMM improperly installed. C#
